    today i told a personal trainer i eat 3 meals a day and drink 4 protein shakes

    he said 'you wont grow big cause the protein needs to come from real food not just shakes'

    is that true or is it broscience? surely a gram of protein is a gram of protein no matter where its from?

    Well you can only make use of so much protein at one time from my understanding. However if this is spread out throughout the day I don't see a problem.

    Food digests slower so it's more likely to be used and is more bioavailable. I noticed a difference when I started eating steak every day. 4 Protein shakes a day is definitely overdoing it though.

    4 protein shakes a day seems alot more than necessary but if that's the only way you can get your daily caloric intake in then you're fine.

    A lot of personal trainers are against protein shakes altogether.

    Personally I would prefer entirely getting my protein from food, but I don't seem to get enough from food so protein shakes make the difference up.

    That being said, 4 a day is a little overboard. Fix up your diet to have 4-5 meals at least and cut the protein shake down to 1-2 a day.

    I eat 6 meals and have 1 protein shake after a workout, sometimes before and thats it. Protein powder isnt the greatest thing for your body some have alot of metals and lead in it

    your trainer makes trainers look bad. protein (whey) is a very good source of protein and has very high leucine content (i belive it's 12%) which is important for Muscle protein synthesis. shakes are fine bro.

    Only thing that makes a difference is the essential amino acids from the solid foods you eat, but you should get enough of these from the 3 meals anyway

    Protein from whole food you bought and cooked yourself is going to be high quality stuff

    Some protein supplements use shiddy protein sources... but popular whey brands like ON and Cytosport or what have you use high quality isolates and stuff so they are the same caliber as getting it from food you eat

    essentially the trainer is wrong

    yes but in a round about way he is kinda right, foods like lean meat and chicken are beneficial because they contain many other macro nutrients which are beneficial for muscular hypertrophy. However, I think 3 meals and 4 protein shakes is sufficient for a successful bulk.

    Also u must remember than certain brands produce ****ty quality protein which is not good.
