You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

It wasn't even a regular deadlift--he locked his knees when the bar was just a few inches off the ground, so it was more of a stiff-leg deadlift than anything. I couldn't tell what his lower back was doing, but his upper back was rounded all to hell from the very start. Granted, it was an impressive lift given the amount of weight, but if he keeps that up, something is going to give, and it's not going to be the bar that finally snaps.
If the guy was a Starting Strength coach . . . I'm not sure I'd want him teaching me.()---() York Barbell Club #49 ()---() ──<//>─<\\>── BWTG Cluster #11 ──<//>─<\\>──

Atty or any other of the York brethren, I am going to show my lack of knowledge here with a question I posted to Stasher1 in another thread about vintage York bars. Are the vintage bars all or usually bare steel? I am thinking of that 80's power bar from Garage Iron specifically Atty.
Edit: Think I researched my own answer as I believe my bar specifically has a blued coating.Last edited by dragon360; 10-08-2014 at 09:25 AM.

I am most familiar with York bars from the 50's to the 80's. Up until 1988 or so, York bars had a dark blue finish, similar to gun bluing. I believe the 70's era York stainless steel and "Swedish" steel bars were also blued, though I don't know for sure. From the 1930's until 1988, York described the steel used in their bars (other than the Swedish steel bar) as being "chrome vanadium" steel. The 1988 catalog lists a different alloy for York bars and the bars are no longer blused. I'm not at home now, so I can't get to the catalog. I don't think York blued bars after 1988.

Turned 40 a few years ago. Realized everything started to go downhill (weight, eye sight, endurance, etc.). Decided to get back into exercising regularly. Since I am a father of four little ones, and I work long hours, I decided to save me some time (and reduce my excuses) by turning my basement into a gym. Before I knew it, the entire basement was filled with equipment (RC rack, Hammer Strength and Medx machines, York dumbbells, etc.). I was also always into collecting vintage stuff. It was cars for a while, then pipes, bourbons, whiskeys, and (please try to contain your laughter) even fountain pens. I've been checking out this and the vintage threads recently. So when I got a leg press recently, I thought I kill two birds with one stone by getting not just 100 pound plates but vintage 100 pound plates. Ended up finding them from someone here. Here's a pic of some of the hundos I picked up and my new York leg press, which BTW, sucks. It is in no way "smooth". Since my basement does not have a walk-out, my choices for leg presses which can break down enough to fit through my stairway were limited.

Need some guidance info. Friend of mine is quite conversant in all things York. He stumbled upon a stamped BFCO split sleeve bar that looks suspiciously similar to York split sleeve handwork. Did York make bars for BFCO back in the day? No, I do not have any pics. Thanks to any and all for the help!!

I'm guessing BFCO copied York. IH might know, if you go there.
