i believe the "self-appointed" leader of the york barbell club has seen better days. his mere existance here seems to be ...."non-requierd" !!! i hereby put forth a motion that the "standard king", skinny squats wear the crown as york barbell club leader. his tireless endevors into the history of such things as, original foundries, plate identification, collar corruptness, milled or un-milled, paint or not, REM vs wd-40, and whatever else he has opened our eyes and minds to involving the sacred creed that be york barbell, has prompted my campaign to dethrone the wothless being that so many of you hail as your savior. i believe skinny squats could heave the york barbell club out of it's dark dwelling and sky-rocket it's members to new and exciting unimaginable heights of iron !!! who's with me on this? do not be afraid, the beast cannot hurt you anymore. come, join the crusade, baptize yourself in the un-ending persuit of iron truth that is....SKINNY SQUATS, the "standard king".

Happy 2014 York BB club !! I stopped at the York museum today and really enjoyed my time there . Small but everthing in there I really appreciated. I will be honest it did upset me to see the poor quality of bars and plates made today. I could not believe that York does not even make split sleeves bars anymore?? I planed on picking up a new smaller straight bar for preacher curls but I was not happy with any of the new bars that were for sale there. I passed on a new barbell but did get a York barbell club pint glass and t shirt.
I was also very happy to rescue some classic York Iron along the way....










This man was one of the biggest influences in my training he is missed ..

I will be sure to make a trip back there in the future .

It's not 10-70. It's 10-50 plus a pair of 70s. I'm not sure if the 70s are York.

That was my little secret. I spotted them in one of his other listings and asked him to name his price. He said he'd think about it. But rather than reply to my email, he posted a for sale ad. He probably thought I'd see the ad but I think it was rude not to at least reply with a link. I haven't felt like chasing him down but I would have had them over a week ago if he had just been straight with me and replied with his price. It was better weather than too. They were originally posted for $350 which was a little over 50 cents per pound. He's since lowered it to $300.

He's advertising in a CL area about 1 hour drive (each way) from Minocqua. It's a much longer drive for me and it's terribly cold. I've driven it before and there's nothing else up that way.

There was a guy up in Greenbay selling a set of round heads for $70 which was around 10 cents a pound. They were difficult to spot in his ad. I posted them in the Craigslist thread and they disappeared from his ad soon after. A lurker probably got them.

Vintage York Roundheads for around 10 cents per pound up north in WI.

"The dumbbells can be sold separate; I have a pair of 20s, 35s, 60s, 65s, 70s, and 75s. I am firm on $70 for these because I can get that at the recycle plant if needed, but I'd rather them go to someone who wants to buy & use them."

I used a grinder with a 4 1/2" cutting wheel. On my "60" the handle was loose and popped right out from the middle. Here's some pics.

Guilty here too with bent or damaged orphans.

I used a cut off saw that did a pretty good job. I did paint mine over time and wish that I did not as it made them slicker!

Somehow, I lost my little 1 1/4 magnet weight...it is stuck somewhere!
