I won't pay more than .60/lb. I think I have averaged around .45/lb for my "collection". I don't have many milled small plates, and honestly, most of the milling on my plates isn't the prettiest. So I guess it's a case of getting what I paid for.

Many of my plates looked like twodog's, and this is the reason I started painting them. I had a few that were decent, but with my gym in the garage they stated getting pretty rusted. So I have painted all of them now- and I really like them flat black.

When my gym was in the basement and I didn't have to deal with moisture issues, I preferred the patina.

I agree with you for what I like to pay, which is also a high of about 60 cents, but I paid more for some unmilled 2.5's and 10's (needed them mailed) recently to round out my set. Yorks are almost impossible to find in my area and when you can the amount is usually large (1,000 pounds or more). I also consider my area as anywhere within a 150 mile radius, lol. My big haul was 45 cents/lb. but as you can see, they weren't pretty, lol.

When I squat my head goes between the rafters. There are limitations to some exercises and many times I have to duck so I don't hit my head on a pipe. Installing the Equipment down there would of disabled most men but despite the height every time I go down there I know I am going to get in an encredible workout with no distractions. In the future we plan to own a home with a massive basement or a big old barn.
    Hey TJ,

After going to a different thread and seeing the gym that you run, I was wondering if the old skool gym is in the basement of that building or your home ? Either way, I'm jealous as hell that you get to work out in both atmosphees. I prefer the old skool, but it would be cool to get to use some of the newer stuff as well. You are one blessed dude, lol.

To be clear, what I think is an estimated "going" or "fair" rate is not what I would pay! Nor what I typically have paid.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

We are very fortunate at fitness incentive the gym just got 7 years in a row best of long island. The owners are the best people i have ever worked for. I don't have a home because I have spent to much money the past 3 year buying equipment ... No joke ... Its time to buckle down unless some more yorks appear

I feel that this is fair as long as there in decent condition. Especially since I have paid top dollar for many of them. It is allways great to find the good deals. I would like to keep them in the club and work with whoever could use some more of these classics . When the time comes I will let u guys know. thanks

I've got 88 x 45lb plates, and plenty of 35s, 25s, 10s, 5s, and 2.5s. I got all of mine 7 years ago from York Fitness Canada. They aren't vintage like most of the plates shown here, but they feel it. They aren't milled, there is nothing fancy about them, and I'm even tempted to start buying up used Ivanko Revolvers, but I like them just the same.

Wow, so much new York porn up in this bitch now.

Some of you guys have picked up some amazing scores!

I've been away for a while, but not much has changed.

I contemplated selling my globes for oodles of $, but I'm in good enough shape financially I decided to just hang on and beat on them a little longer. They are an asset regardless because I'm using them a lot and they are only going to become more valuable as the years pass.

I sold through all of my spare plates and picked up some more milled Yorks, but they are rusty as **** so no pics until I clean them up. For now they are dead lift plates because I can keep them on the bar and not worry about them.

    Keep rockin' the Yorks, people!

That listing in interesting, I didn't know that only the 50+ lb. DBs were full globe, while the <50 are "bun" shaped.
I was going to look out to replace my smaller Hex DBs and try to complete my globe set (eventually), but not sure how I feel about the bun buns.

Maryland isn't super far away, if I were motivated I'd put an offer in on his smaller DBs. It doesn't look like he is really looking to unload those on the cheap side, though. I'm fine throwing around what I've got for now (literally, I have some crappy DBs I toss around in my back yard as a plyometric exercise). I wouldn't feel right about chucking vintage DBs the way I do with some of my beaters.

Dude, #1 it's great to have you back. #2 It is a sad fact that the db's 5-50 were buns and the larger ones were globes. I also don't like the buns as much, but if you want a full set then they are the proper ones.

Good to have you back, Vermonter. Buns seem pretty hard to find and they went from 5s to 45s. Then the globes from 50 to 100. You can always go with roundheads from 5 thru 50lbs. I know a guy selling a set of them, just coincidentally......

I had 8 milled 45's that were pretty banged up. I got off as much as the original paint as u could and used rustolium 2x coat satin black instead of the flat for the first time. 3 coats each side then finished the lettering and numbers with a silver paint marker. I prefer the original look a hell of a lot more but considering how these looke before i am pretty happy how they came out.

I worked out a nice trade and got a few hundred pounds of the USA marked milled yorks. This is the first time I have this style of milled 25's an 35's .I am not looking forward to getting all this paint off but looking forward to the finish product. I am undecided weather I am going to spray them with satin of flat. The satin makes the milling stand out more. I may even speay a pair just in clear coat. A friend of mine cleaned a set up and did that and they came out great. These absolutely need to be redone because the previous owner killed them with a shiny black paint.

Has anyone ever soaked the plates with some type of paint remover ? I been using a small disk called a sandblaster to get of the paint but it takes a very long time and it will not get all the paint off in between the letters.

Anybody here know anything about this vertical leg press? I'm supposed to go pick it up in about an hour and a half, but I'm having a hard time finding any info on it at all.

Hey TJ, nice pickup ! Is the light color raw metal or is there a lighter color paint underneath ? If it's raw and gloss black, I wouldn't worry about removing all the paint. Just sand them smooth or or use a wire wheel to get all of the loose stuff off. Make sure the old paint is roughed up and paint over it with the Rustoleum of your choice. Rustoleum needs no primer.

I found citric acid extremely effective. Check out this thread (about half way down) for some pics of my York's going through the process.

I have been researching vertical leg presses lately myself. I can only tell you that it's been discontinued for some years, which you probably already know. I recently placed an order with our friend Allison at York, during the process I asked about that leg press, and she said she did some searching and couldn't find any in stock anywhere. I will say that in my searching I have discovered that Promaxima makes a very promising looking vertical leg press that I plan on purchasing very soon, as Craigslist hasn't offered anything with a small enough footprint in my area in the last year. (Awaiting negs for mentioning non-york equipment in this thread).

Great observations as I didn't realize that verticals had been moved to the wayside. No negs for mentioning another brand because Allison Forman's name was mentioned in the same paragraph,

Is it silly to be concerned with developing an aneurism due to using a vertical leg press?

For a while I was using my smith machine for a leg press (Just like a vertical one), but stopped because A) I sucked at squats and wanted to improve that movement more and B) I read that it could be bad for you to strain so much (especially with Valsalva maneuver) with your legs over your head, etc...

    Does that sound ridiculous?

It doesn't sound ridiculous to me. But on the upside, you're not moving near the weight as you are on a 45 degree (or similar sled), in which you are still pretty inverted. I took a physiology course where we had a lab and checked our bp's under a 200 lb machine squat load, and it was shocking to me how high my bp went. I've always been low ~ 100/50 ish, and if I'm remembering right the numbers got up to like 400/200 while I was under the load; I was probably 22 years old. I'd guess the bp gets pretty up there in a heavy set of leg presses, and being inverted would pool more blood that direction. I think the bigger risk is an orthostatic hypotension, stand up and pass out kind of situation with these machines, though. I'm only into them because they don't require a ridiculous amount of 45 lb plates, and they take up a tidy little 46" by 46" square in my home gym.
