Here's a quick photo of some of the plates that I managed to snap before it got too dark. I'm going to need to clean them up a bit ...after I get some sleep. I may want to repaint but I haven't decided yet.
NM, not the first time that I didn't post a deal (atty and many others can confirm. for different deals, of course) but it was funny. If I had posted it on the forum then before I could even got my boots on, you and Gene would have gotten it (driving non stop from NJ to WI) and had them up on ebay already ...or is Skinny in WI for a wedding?
I actually did have someone hot on my trail. I was the 1st contact but ended up paying a bit more than the asking price because of the other guy.

Very nice MB. I have never seen a 25 deep dish plate before.
I'm sure someone will chime in to the date of the 25 DD plates. Were they all offered as a set at some point?[II]---[II] Equipment Crew #49 [II]---[II]

I believe 40's and 50's. No surprise, MUTASSIN and snowone have both the 35 and the 25 DDs. 10s, 5s, and 2.5s, IIRC remained the same up until the late 50's/early 60's with stamped weights on the face of the plates, instead of raised numbers on the plates.
Nothing worse than d-bag trying to f-it-up for the guy getting the plates by putting big numbers in the seller's head. Do you know who the guy is?
How many of each plate did you get?You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Thanks, guys.
I think there may be a number 5 "stamped" (instead of raised) on one of the 5s. I wiped off some dirt and spotted it. It's kind of light. I might find more marks when i clean the plates but there are no raised numbers.
I just have two of each size.
I don't know the identity of the other guy but he's not as charming as me.
According to the seller, it was given to him from an older relative when he moved. He said his uncle(?) got them directly from York. The seller got them from his relative in the 70s but he didn't know when he bought them or how long he had them.Last edited by morebarbell; 05-29-2014 at 09:45 PM.

Congratulations thats an awesome find! You are mistaken however with your assumption that I would try to snake a deal from someone. Anyone I have dealt with here can speak to that, I dont operate that way. Even in jest I don't appreciate it. Look forward to seeing the rest of the pics when you get a chance to post them."If your going to be a bear, be a grizzly!"

^^lol....northern deserves that and more!! He broke my soul to the bone with that fake craigslist post. I have never been so excited when I saw the ad.
I got the idea from one of my co-workers. We work in the trucking company and deal with a lot of 3rd party carriers. If he gets screwed over by someone he puts a "free pitbull puppies" craigslist ad up with the certain someones number.
Morebarbell, hats off to you friend. Looks like you have finally made the correct decision to come over to the dark side. Those deep 25's are pretty dang cool.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #47

I ran across a fake ad on Monday and thought that TJ and I had hit the jackpot. I wouldn't mind if it was my buddies playing a joke but this was not the case. Probably mad at TJ's score on Saturday. We think that we know who did it and I plan to cut ties with this person. The members here do not know them.

Craigslist seems a bit cut throat to me. Sometimes I think people just need to take a step back. It's just weights. Unless you're buying to flip. Then it's just money.
The funniest thing to me is all the players who apparently think their games are fooling people even though they are probably incredibly obvious to everyone else.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #32 []---[] ()---() York Barbell Club #43 ()---() ▉---▉ Equipment Crew #50 ▉---▉

The few times when I've sold vintage stuff on CL, it was a bit like black friday at Walmart... lots of shoving and trampling. The difference is that it all took place by email/phone... also most were too lazy to drive to the pickup location (some were unwilling to drive at all) and many wanted to negotiate better deals. Sorting through all the mess was not fun.
Even for regular stuff it can get out of hand. I recently had a flipper buy something from me and he was not at all pleasant to deal with. He wasted a bunch of my time with games and then coughed up the money when I was going to call it quits. He relisted for a $20 profit. Seems like he made a lot of trouble for $20.
Thanks!Last edited by morebarbell; 05-30-2014 at 06:27 PM.

Actually, most of the people who contacted me about vintage stuff weren't locals. Some were from very far away though they usually try to hide it until they think they've got you hooked. There are a few local buyers for vintage stuff though.
Don't get me wrong, I've dealt with a lot of nice folks from out of state as well.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #32 []---[] ()---() York Barbell Club #43 ()---() ▉---▉ Equipment Crew #50 ▉---▉

My area seems to be similar. The few York plates I've had I've not even really tried to make a premium on because I just needed them gone. I did have one real nice set that I wish I'd kept...even had a pair of York spin lock collars with them. Funny thing on that one was the guy that bought them seemed to know what everything was.... he acted like he'd just been given a golden ticket for half price, but didn't want to be obvious. I kept wanting to tell him that the only person at my house that didn't know he was getting a great deal was my wife.... and she really just wanted him to leave.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

Thanks! Is the "dark side" a satin black?? I grew up lifting York and for a long time that was all that I knew. It's what I associated with "weights". I'm disappointed with what "weights" means these days.
The forum network seems to have had a lot of success. I'm kind a ways from most of you guys. I've shipped some stuff to four or more of the forum members at a loss or at cost each time--just helping a brotha out when I find deal. I haven't really done any serious trading through the network but I don't find that much vintage stuff in this area either. ...I haven't done badly either though. Somehow I managed to find some cool vintage stuff and even an entire crate of brand new in the box Ivanko revolvers. When I sold the extra revolvers I did so primarily through local or regional networks. Most of my best deals were through local networks rather than Craigslist.Last edited by morebarbell; 05-30-2014 at 09:41 PM.

Would it be possible to have a reference map as to where everyone in the club is located by town and state? I see a lot of good deals on vintage weights and equipment everywhere but I do not want to post links that will blow it for folks who may already be aware. If we had a map to reference I could discreetly message the member in that area. Just a thought.
