The 95s are hard to find in either. Nice score! Especially for $100

I have PRE-USA Roundheads in 9, 85, 90, and 100. I'm trying to figure out a way to get the 85's to a buddy but shipping is hellish, I haven't given up yet though.

I just picked up my new favorite bar, a 90s York Olympic Weightlifting bar. The seller bought it new in the late 90s. Other than using duct tape on his rack pins, he took care of his equipment. I still need to clean the duct tape glue from the knurl.
The bar is 28mm, satin chrome, has no center knurl, and the knurl marks are 39 inches apart. I am not too keen on the knurl mark spacing, but the bar is great. From the Gym Store York Catalog of 2004 it appears that the bar is the Mens 20 kg Olympic Training Bar 2200 mm length - #211015. I am sure the gurus here will correct me if I am mistaken.
I pulled the sleeves off and and cleaned up the dried grease, oil, and dirt. Lubed it with 3-in-One oil and ended up with the best spinning sleeves of all my bars.
The ends of the bar have no marks, but after removing the sleeves I saw that the inside of the flange is stamped with 11 94. I assume that is the date of manufacture: November 1994, which is consistent with the seller's claim of getting it in the late 90s.
The sleeves are ridged. There are very fine lathe marks on the sleeves. They are not nearly as pronounced as on my Cap OB-86B bar. In comparison, my York power bar of the same vintage has smooth sleeves with a dark patina.
One odd thing is that the shaft has some metal pushed up where the flange is attached to the bar. It looks like the flanges were pressed onto the shaft and pushed some of the knurl up. The stuff is solid and looks like compressed knurling. It is not corrosion. And it is on both ends of the bar.

One pic of the gunk on the bar. Same gunk as last pic above, just a different angle.

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Can anyone tell if these are old york plates? Guy selling says they are 44 lbs/each. The pic quality is terrible so its hard to tell.

Yes. Most definitely. Weight not marked, I'd say they're 45s. 44s would be marked 20kg if I've learned anything. From this thread.

Think they're a good buy at $20/each. If I wanted to sell a few what could I get for them after I cleaned them up?
For some reason I cant quote users...guess I need 50 posts. Almost there.

Definitely 70-80's York plates. They look to have the usual '45' cast in them under 'YORK'. I don't think I've seen a 45 pound/20 kg plate from this era that wasn't cast with a weight denomination.
If they are stamped "USA" on the hubs they were made in the 90's.
Good buy at that price if not just for the convenience of getting them all at once.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #72 []---[]

You won't get much more around here until people get to know you. We're collectively tired of gear flippers showing up, asking questions about the "going rate", and then selling their s--- without ever contributing to the discussion. As for roundheads, here's an obvious answer: What do regular Chinese-made hex dumbbells go for in your area? Roundheads will go for more than the going rate on hex dumbbells. The details you can figure out on your own.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

I understand what you are saying, but I have went through this thread and searched through the BB forum pretty good and theres not much more than "they are more than hex" I have seen you say you have sold them for .60lb but thats on a rare occasion and the posts are several years old. I have also seen you say to buy if they were under 1.00 a lb, however I know it is harder to find the heavy round heads such as 100s so I wasnt sure if it was in reference to that. I am not trying to flip the dumbbells, just been accumulating weights for my basement and have been lifting for over half my life. You can see that I joined the BB site a long time ago (and this was my second account as you can see im bigoafreturns2. before that bigoaf). I am simply looking to make an educated decision for someone who wants a premium on the standard .50-.60 a lb. Couple that with the fact that they started remaking the dbs as legacy and then it becomes even more scary for me since I am not an expert at differentiating. As far as I can tell the new reproductions have knurled handles and the vintage do not. Is that accurate? Is .75lb a decent deal? I want quality dbs but do not want to overpay obviously. If you dont want to answer, I understand but not sure how I can contribute to the york barbell club when I cant educate myself by asking questions.

tl;dr (use paragraph marks, man)
You can easily determine the going rate for hex dumbbells in your area. If you want roundheads, they will likely cost more. They are relatively rare, and it is a seller's market (assuming the seller knows what he is selling). Some are more rare than others.
You need to determine the value of RHs to you and then decide if you are willing to pay what someone is willing to sell them for.
As for the difference between the original RHs, the USA marked RHs, the mass marketed (blue) RHs, and the new Legacy RHs, that info is in this thread and other places on the interwebs. Search is a powerful tool, much more powerful than being spoonfed. I got my first RHs less than a year ago. I now have almost a full set. I am no expert, but I have learned a lot by reading and researching.OβO York Barbell Crew #53 OβO
