This is actually the Bur owner's make shift squat stand set up. He stands only a few inches higher than that metal box (and that's only if you factor his mowhawk in at full vertical point).

I saved a bunch of stuff from the scrap yard again today. Lots of standard and pancake York plates as well as a few unmarked dumbbells and plates. Anyone have any insight on these:

Small York plate with a smaller than 1 inch diameter hole. I have never seen a weight plate with such a small hole for the bar:




Unknown plates with a few raised areas around the hub. They have a raised diamond shape that almost looks like it would help them lock in together.



Finally just a few York dumbbells I saved.



I grabbed a lot more items, but these seemed to be the most interesting. I wish I had a little more knowledge about the old stuff as this scrap yard has a ton of brands I have never heard of and some decent looking stuff, but mostly all standard.

Do the dumbbells have sleeved handles? If so, that may be the source of that York plate with the <1" diameter hole. There's no reason to bore a 1" hole in the plates if you're going to use them to build dumbbells using a smaller diameter rod and a separate sleeve-type grip/spacer.

It is hard to tell as the ends are welded on, but you could be correct. I have never seen any plates with holes that small (York or otherwise) I would have to break apart some of the dumbbells to see.

Picked these up a few days back. Wiped them down with WD40 and they are good to go. Coolest part about these plates is that I got them from a military guy. Some of the plates have the markings "MWR" on the back. That stands for Morale Welfare and Recreation. Some of these plates were is a military gym at one time, maybe in Afghanistan

I will NOT be painting them.

The York pancake plates that you have we're made for the York pro style dumbbell handles, or what they caled gym dumbbells. The end plates were made so the bolt would fit flush with the plates. The original sets that York sold were bolted, not welded. The DB's that you havenweremput together out of the factory.

So would it be okay for cut the handles off to get to the plates? If they are just something someone slapped together I will probably take the plates off.

The seller was deployed recently and talked about losing a few gym items in the move, but I bet he meant that he lost a few items between stateside base moves. I was just looking at some flickr pics of base gyms in Kandahar and I was impressed.

Let me get my hands on a split-sleeve and then I will join the club (will give me some incentive to find one). One other thing....I refuse to hang these Yorks on my Marcy weight tree....lol.

I already have 25s and honestly am not fond of them. Just dont like the fact that they have no lip to speak of. That is the same reason that I sold the hundos that I had.

That said, these 35s are by far the most favorite plates that I have handled. I love the York raised lettering. They will be the only 35s in my gym since I have never cared to have any around. I do not have 2.5s but will be on the ebay look for them.

I was very impressed at the condition. You guys should go over to the craigslist thread and see what the same guy has for sale now.......that is if you like 1970s Nautilus stuff.
