How has your experience with them been? Some people have mentioned that one downside is that they are "bottom heavy" due to the asymmetrical handle placement (top/bottom) and if you don't place them on the bar upright they will spin.()---() York Barbell Club #5 ()---()

Thanks for posting the image for me, repped you for that.
They are indeed bottom heavy and will spin to correct that on the bar. However, the only do two lifts from the floor both of which I can load the bar while its sitting on the catches of my multi-press rack. They typically correct their orientation on their own if I'm not careful enough to put them on right the first time around. The only other beef I have is that they smell like rubber (I know this will subside over time.)
On the plus sides: These plates are US made and every single one is stamped as such, as you can see they've all got the steel sleeve in the center, not sure if you can see it but unlike the all steel G2's the 25's and 35's are the same height at the 45's which is good for lower weight Dead Lifts and Rows for my wife, they "interlock" on the bar, the handles greatly improve their ability to be moved around which is what my wife really likes about them and finally, I got them at an amazing price of $1.15 a pound and picked them up myself from York Barbell, I live about 20ish miles from their HQ.
Overall, I give them a thumbs up, the good seems to outweigh the bad for my purposes.Last edited by brucedelaney; 12-29-2012 at 12:04 PM. Reason: Added some info

These are new and made in the US? I was under the impression that York no longer manufactured anything in the US, just in China and Canada.

If you look closely at the pic you can see the USA stamp right in center hub, Perhaps I'm mis-understanding the purpose of the stamp. I looked at their website closely and it states all products are north american made and has a US and Canadian Flag but I can't seem to get any indication which products are produced in the US or Canada. Not all of their plates have the USA stamp like these do so that's the assumption I'm going by. I apologize if it's incorrect.

Added some round heads to my arsenal today they need a serious clean up after the sellers (who also had a great set of york globes and many other classic iron) basement gym was destroyed from hurricane Sandy. I look forward to Cleaning them up and putting them to good use.

TLYNCH you are a york hound !
I picked up a pair of 50 lb roundheads this weekend for $50.
So now I have pairs of 15, 20, 50. Maybe in another 10 years I'll piece together a 5-100 lb set.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No 7

I figured that there would be some black iron victims of Sandy. . . Glad to see you rescued the iron. One of the dbs looks to be blue, and not black. Is it?

This stuff works great. It will save you time painting. The finish it leaves is quite nice, and you can use it in doors.

I've talked about this before, but it's a good time to do so again. In the 1990's, while York continued to make plates and roundheads in the US, it manufactured plates and roundheads in semi-gloss black and metallic blue (or blue green). The black weights were sold at its dealers and the metallic blue were sold at some of the larger sporting goods stores (Champions, for example). TLynch77 has a pic of some 45 Kg Oly plates in blue and I've posted pics of roundheads I had in blue. One of the regulars here and at IH has several blue 45 lb milled plates at his home gym outside of York, PA too.

Krebs is a big fan of this stuff. I gather it's good. I've always done it the hard way and wirebrushed off the rust before painting.

Atty thanks for the info Skrebs I will Be sure to use that stuff in the future when i eventually get 55-100s . After a few hours my hands took a beating using the drill with the wire wheel. Here is the set of roundheads with exception to a few of the smalls wired down and cleaned up with WD40. I will take these classic round heads over any of the fancy new dumbells made today ...

There are buns and roundeads in that second picture. The 45s in the first pic are not deep dish. If I were in the area, I woud want to go look. There is some vintage York equipment in the background of the first pic.

Just ordered some York Barbell equipment from Allison. She was great! I even had a 40% off coupon. I'll post Pics of what I just ordered below. I need to figure out how many weights I should start out with for my home gym? 45s, 25s, 10s, 5s? Was debating on how many of each I need to get. Btw, I found this company through your post here http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...ng+olympic+bar and called her up and talked for awhile and she wanted me to thank you for the complaments you've been giving her an suggesting people to go through her
Great update after talking with Allison Foreman she told me that the company just recently redid it's standards pn the 1000lb bar to a 1500lb bar weight limit. Was stoked to find that out
