    Pause Squats? Benefits?

I'm currently on starting strength (babylover's modified).

Alternate with fronts and back squats every day.

What are the benefits of pause squats?

Do they help with more explosiveness? Is there any reason to do regular back squats over back squats with a 2 second pause on the bottom?

If I were to incorporate pause squats, should I do them for front squats, back squats, or both?

Well for one thing they are a good way to work on maintaining strict form in the bottom position of the squat. Very good warmup exercise.

I like doing pause (~10 seconds) squats with 135 or 185 to work on flexibility.

I do my share of pause squats, and I think it really helps establish control in the hole especially for a lifter like myself that uses a lot of stretch reflex at the bottom.

Not necessary all the time IMO, but a good variation now and then.

If I was you I would just squat normally for now.

    You squat everyday?

And it's a different type of contraction - isometric in comparison to the normal concentric contraction, theory is it builds strength specific to the position you hold the isometric contraction in... i.e. In theory builds strength at bottom part of the squat.

    Personally though I'm not convinced...
