"Close grip bench press is NOT a tricep exercise" Watched the other vid they had up years ago and have been doing JM ever since. I've built thick horseshoe triceps with these.

They look abit awkward for the wrists, ill give them a shot.
I feel CGBP on my triceps way more than my chest and i dont feel anything on my shoulders, but then again im presuming you guys are going alot heavier than me?Start: 27/02/2012

BP: 132 --> 198 x 8
DL: 132 --> 264 x 5

Not as big as mine/not as big as they could be while using JM press.
You're presumption is correct.
Thanks for the neg. Oh nice avatar btw, I'm sure you've built some great triceps there bud!
Don't get me wrong I'm sure you will gain some thickness to your tri's but nowhere near as much as with this much more direct and involved movement.Last edited by wheynweed; 03-24-2012 at 03:52 AM.

Yep. Awesome press, will hit your tri's alot harder than CGBP
Ok bud stop trying to be witty. Thread was made to endorse such a great tricep exercise and help people who were having trouble building size. Is it better than CGBP? Yes. Will it help you grow bigger triceps than CGBP? Yes. Does that mean CGBP does not build tris? No, but not as thoroughly as this movement will.

It's one thing to endorse an exercise, and another to make absolute claims about an exercise. No on exercise is "best", each have their purpose. You also need to take someone's entire workout into consideration. If I have heavy bench, incline cgbp, OHP and heavy dips in my program, what would be the overall advantage to the jm press? When taking the entire routine into consideration, I doubt the change from CGBP to JM would cause any significant difference in my routine. The JM press is great, but it's use is a matter of preference.

OP, if you do a little more research, you'll discover why Dave Tate reco's JM Press for situational reasons. Dave's a smart guy and realizes that everybody's training is different, and that there can be elbow stress conflicts with CGBP that can be alleviated w/ JM. And vice-versa he also notes that there is a compromise in losing some additional tricep stimulation from skullcrusher type extensions to elbow comfort w/ JM. It actually isn't the greatest in the world -- but it's pretty darn good in 'these A,B,C' situations.
Tate never comes out and says "JM is the end-all, be-all Tri Builder and if you're doing anything else, you're just losing out, idiot."
That, in fact would be you doing that. That's why you're getting so much discomfort for being a dick. Tate would neg you. Twice.

My thoughts exactly.... Need to rep u on recharge.
Well, that JM is a hybrid and looks cool and nice, but it hurts my wrists more than the CGBP....so I will stick with what hurts less....
For the ones that can, there's nothing bad in trying them.
Also Chuck Norris would neg "him" twice too? ....
His only problem is the lack of diplomacy here, don't be so bad on him .Last edited by XADO; 03-24-2012 at 06:30 AM.
If your body cannot handle it, make sure sheer willpower will.....

Bolded the important part.
If an exercise doesn't feel right to you, don't do it. Derp.
However, Xuaxace, you might give the JM press another shot sometime in the future. There have been a few exercises that I've dropped in the past because it seemed they just weren't doing much for me, only to try them later and all of the sudden "feel it". This happened to me with one-arm DB rows.
I like CGBP, but when I go heavy (not as heavy as the OP of course ), I can't keep from having my shoulder issues flare up. JM press with a false grip feels great, however.Here Lies the Rant
