I was reading in Lyle's book that after 3 weeks you will be using ketones for your main energy source for your brain and organs, and it will take more ffa to make more ketones. Im curious if im fully keto adapted yet because in the morning im still seeing purple on the ketostix. I dont want to carb up next week if im not using ketones exclusively and lose progress. Any idea?

i'd be willing to bet ur gunna be fat adapted in that 10-15 day range if u were honest and strict about diet. I know lyle always talks about the 3 week mark. That's why i ALWAYS wait out till the 28th day to do my carb up just to be on the SUPER SUPER safe side. but i knew i was done with the induction on day 9-10 (atleast thats when the neg. symptoms disapeared and i got my energy back)

my energy is great, and my diet is spot on (aside from too little protein) but i used this month to focus on my diet without having to kick my own ass to lift while having no energy. I saw purple and i thought 'hm im not efficiently using ketones zzzziiip' lol. figured id ask if ketones have to be on the low end before you know youre adapted enough

The sticks are not a good way to determine body-tissue's adaptation to ketones as an energy source. Better, as Lyle and Schoonie recommended, to simply wait 3-4 weeks before your first carb up.
If you're looking for a "feeling," I think you can go by cravings for carb heavy foods. If you're still craving carbs, you're not fat adapted, your brain is telling you need them... which you dont, but after a while this feeling goes away.http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?p=608052853&posted=1#post608052853

after my initial 28 days (induction phase) i carb up every 3 weeks. but once my induction phase is complete, i do a modified TKD/CKD (a mix between keto and dave palumbo diet, with a carb refeed every 21 days). Low cals, high protein, rougly 100 g's of fat and about 70 g's of carbs daily (majority of which is around strength training workouts).
I lift VERY heavy 5-6 days a week, but im also FORCED to do bullsh!t workouts (plyo's) for work every morning. I work out more than the average person, but NOT necessarily by choice.

i dont think it necessarily depends on heavy lifting cuz u will still empty glcogen stores doing crossfit and other excercises. However u are a pretty big boy, and as much as i would love to carb up everyweek, i know my body doesnt need it. I think a TKD would be better than a CKD for u.
But if u do a CKD, try a 24 hr carb up every 2 weeks or 3 weeks instead of every week.

True adaptation is determined by anorexigenic hormonal resistance dropping/elimination. For a person NOT carrying large amounts of body fat, three weeks is not unreasonable. For people with significantly more, more time will be required. The more fat (and higher resistance levels) carried, the stricter you should be as far as carbs, since dropping the resistance levels is paramount. If you want to avoid a traditional carb-up, TKD is better....
I'll take arrogance and the inevitable hubris over self-doubt and lack of confidence, anyday.......

I too am confused about the carb specifically if it is necessary at all. I'm into my 3rd week of ketosis this week having trained almost everyday and putting in dozens of miles on the road. I did my first ever 1/2 marathon yesterday and I feel no need for carbs yet (except the couple of post race beers) I am wondering if I should just not bother and carry on without a carb up.
