There are actually 1/2 pound weights in the closet in the aerobics room. For my abs class, we usually have to have one set of matching heavier dumbbells and one lighter one. We'll use the lighter one for holding between our feet for frog crunches or upright accordions, etc. Some people actually do use the 1 or 2 pounders for those. The heaviest dumbbells in there are 10s which is actually totally heavy enough for the class, but the guys in there always laugh that I grab the 10s just like they do. My light one is always a 5. Some of the women use 8s for their heavy ones, but it seems like most people use lighter than 5s for their light one. I don't know why they even bother using the weight sometimes LOL

Yup! That's me right there. Go to bed full(ish) wake up 8 hours later like I've never eaten before! Give me some eggs !!!!NOW!!!! It's a scary place in my house 1st am. Good thing it's only me and my dog at that time.
There is this little baby set of KB's in the gym that came out of nowhere that I just noticed. I haven't asked the owner what/who their for, eventually he'll get around to telling me but I'm going to try to get a pic of them to post. The 1st thing I thought when I looked at them is jeez, I got earrings bigger than that! You have to train your mind the same way you train your body. pisses me off so much. a lot of people don't know and then sometimes they don't even make the correlation = causation effect but the articles they read do. did you read all the articles today on how eating chocolate makes you weigh less?
off topic, something that bothers me abt responses. i see this a lot in the general nutrition section. people mention "clean" diets, and yes, that should be addressed. bs and meaningless term (there was some good material abt this. probably by alan), "healthy" is relative, the micronutrients of a food do not affect weight loss (i.e., you can totally gain eating "healthy" food), blah blah blah. but they always need to put in pictures of fruit being washed or make a comment w/ the same sentiment. enough already. it's not funny, it's old, and it's not helpful. people use the term b/c it's what they hear and don't know better. plus, we all know what they mean. i dunno.

it's the sheep effect in both groups. you average person isn't very inventive. so, if someone says something remotely funny/accurate and looks like an authority the sheep will bleat it ad nauseaum. repetition = truth. it's always better to be with the majority. it's safe and you don't really have to think for yourself.

I heard this on the news this morning! haha I just rolled my eyes and thought really???? people are so simple minded sometimes. of course the news anchors had to add at the end "This does NOT mean you can go eat all the chocolate you want and lose weight"
Because...people always think correlation=causation.

But really what do you expect? They want to consider pizza a veggie in schools because there's a tbl of tomato sauce on them **gag** That's if it's even really tomato sauce to begin with. My poor grandmother is rolling over in her grave right now.

Which gives me the cue for another rant: what the flying f*ck is wrong with American pizza? In Italy pizza is a light and healthy food, being that it's sized for one person rather than 4, the crust is paper thin, and it's very lightly topped with good quality ingredients (none of that "pepperoni" crap). Here it's been turned into a revolting slab of grease. Seriously folks, not cool!

Oh how I wish. We have chains here only. Little Caesers, PIzza Hut and Dominos. Whe I went to Mahattan years ago I ate a pizza that was absolutely wonderful. I grew up on the chain pizzas so putting that yummy pizza in my mouth was like going to Heaven. Garlic chicken and artichoke hearts. It was so good! Needless to say I don't eat pizza at all here!

Just an observation on my part but has there been a lot of "I only want to change 1 part of my body" posts lately? Oh and btw I don't want to do it with diet and exercise so please don't suggest any of those things! I've stayed out if them lest I'm thought to be unkind again but I will say that I was glad that some of you have picked up and tried to help out.

Really? My uncle is Italian - lives here half of the year and in Italy the other half. He doesn't hesitate to mix it up a bit and get a little creative in the kitchen. Myself, I got the chicken/broccoli/tomato idea from an Italian restaurant called Il Fornello about 20 years ago.
How comes ya don't make your own anyways? It's easy and fun.No drama: You know where we are.

I have been in the US 15 years and I haven't found a single authentic Italian restaurant here. I have a group of Italian friends and once in a while we go out to try some new restaurant. It usually ends up in laughs at what's passed for Italian around here. Sorry, we don't intend to be mean... Things that don't belong on an authentic italian pizza include: chicken, pineapple, broccoli, garlic spread (shudder), garlic pieces, in fact garlic anything, pepperoni (revolting), beef, jalapenos, feta, BBQ sauce, broccoli, potatoes (which are for another concoction similar to, but not the same as, pizza), meatballs... and that's the ones I can think of.

100% correct. lived here 4 years and have yet to see chicken or broccoli on a pizza. In naples some of the pizzarias are part of an organization to ensure they only use "traditional" toppings and methods of preperation. Dough is made fresh everyday. Its a pretty amazing thing (i even have pics if you want, lol!!).
i see a lot of places put fritta patate or fried potaoes on their pizzas, and fruita de mare (fruit of the sea) has whole clams, oysters, calamari, eels, etc on it. On a quatro formaggio (4 cheese) they use a divine white sauce so it is a completely white pizza! I have had a lasagna pizza and a caprese pizza, of course a margherita pizza, vesuvios (very spicy!), diavola and others i cant even name!
Ahh so going to miss the food here!! American pizza will never be the same for me.www.bikinisandbiceps.com

It must be great to have lived in other places and getting to experience different cultures and foods. I have always wanted to explore more of the US and overseas but I never seem to get out of NJ. You girls and your really good pizzas make me jealous (and hungry!)

This crap never gets old does it?? I just left the grocery store and ran into a girl I went to school with. She is a heavy woman and we chat for a sec and then here we go:
Her: you look great. How do you keep in such good shape?
Me: I watch my diet and work out
Her: UGH... I don't do diet or exercising. Too much hassle.
Me: Well I don't do out of shape.
Said our goodbyes and I hear her talking to another lady behind her at next check out counter discussingand telling her why she chooses to drink Diet Dr Pepper as opposed to regular Dr. Pepper. It has less sugar. Ummm okay then**DIRTYSOUTHCREW**

my favorite pizza is from john's in nyc. so good that you don't want any toppings to ruin it. thin crust.
kjake, where is jersey? i found a really awesome pizza place in englewood. not at ALL authentic but creative. i wish i knew the name.
did you seriously say that? snap!! and why would she ask such a question. she must have known the answer before she asked, no? who's gonna say anything other than diet and exercise (b/c that's what there is)? unless she's the type who does expect there to be a magic pill?

I certainly did say that. (I was laughing inside when I said it) I am not a rude person and I felt kind of bad after I said it but don't ask if you don't really want to know! She almost cut me off before I finished what I said. I have just learned some people really don't care if you do it through hard work...they do want the magic pill!

what's wrong with diet soda? if a considerable amount of your daily cals comes from regular goop, then switching to no-cal can easily shave off of a ton without it really hurting.
plus, anecdotally, i increased my consumption of diet soda by 356.7% whilst losing fat. hence, correlation = causation. diet soda causes fat loss"The human race is still largely a group of monkeys with slightly better grooming habits. It's quite easy to make. My only problem is, when I roll the dough out on the counter-top so thin that when I pick it up to transfer to the pan, I tend to get holes in it. lol... I know, with pie crust, I fold it into quarters then transport it. I guess I'm lay, so I just fiddle with the dough once it's on the pan to fix up the wholes. But we have great fun. Pizzas with pesto instead of tomato sauce, different kinds of cheese, even thai pizzas with sweet/sour sauce. Of course, our boys love bacon anywhere on their pizza. You can do almost anything, and it's fun to get creative.
But if you have hard and fast "authentic" Italian ingredients, then just use them. It'll be delicious and you'll have the smell in your house.
If you're not a fan of making dough (if you have the countertop space, it's not hard to make), you can do it in a bread machine, and it's quite good. Takes about an hour and a half.
I often do make-your-own-pizza night here. I make the sauce, chop up all the veg and toppings, shred the cheese, make the dough, set out the spices, and let our boys roll out their own dough and make their own. It really is a fun night!!No drama: You know where we are.

Can I rant about Shakeology? Have any of you ever had it? The way some people talk about it, you might think that it is, in fact, the "magic pill." I have a friend and a cousin who sell it and it's like every other ******** post is about how awesome it is, how much weight they and/or other people lost by drinking it, on and on. I feel like telling them they lost weight because they probably replaced the box of Twinkies they were eating for breakfast with a shake - less calories.
But my one friend, God love her and I'm surprised she hasn't unfriended me, but she's on my last nerve. She is doing a Shakeology cleanse for 3 days, ONLY consuming 3 Shakeology shakes. She just posted about how she lost 2.5 pounds so far(um, yeah. BECAUSE YOU AREN'T EATING ANYTHING), and how she is sooooooo wide awake and has so much energy right now from the cleanse. I call BS. You can't have a ton of energy only consuming 900 calories in a day. No way.
And she goes on and on posting about all the healthy eats she prepares on Sunday, but I have access to her food diary on MFP and she has Shakeology and I have rarely seen her log in all the pork loin and chicken, etc., etc., she claims to be eating. Which is fine. She can eat what she wants but in the end her calories are too low. And when I tried to tell her, she said that the day I looked at wasn't a typical day, that she normally eats more. But her "more" still isn't enough. She's bigger than me, does about 25 hours a day in Insanity and Les Mills Pump and other Beachbody crap so a ton of cardio. She needs to eat more.
And you should have seen the day she posted she was 18% bodyfat - she measured herself with calipers. I have no idea what her bodyfat is, but I can tell you it sure as hell ain't 18%. She took it well when I told her and I told her to come here and look at the sticky but when she posted, she said something like "I'm 18% bodyfat so that is VERY lean." Yeah, it is very lean and you aren't. She's lost a ton of weight and works hard even though I don't agree with her workouts so I hate to rip her but it drives me bat****.
Anyway, I just had to get it off my chest! LOLDanielle xoxo
