My Shakeology friend who is doing the Beachbody reset is now down 4 pounds! And all because she is taking some bull**** formula and says she is cleaning out all the toxins in her body, how good she feels, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, you lost 4 pounds because you are now downing a gallon of water. She is eating but it doesn't look like much so in addition, she's just losing so much weight because she is barely eating plus losing a ton of water. I'm starting to think Beachbody should be outlawed - what a cult! It's like she thinks that it's so great and healthy because Beachbody pushes it. It's just some stupid marketing scam like all the other fat burners and diet pills. I hope she knows she can kiss all of her muscle goodbye on this crap.

wow, hadn't heard that one. but a trainer at my gym told a dude who wanted to gain size to do lighter weights and more reps. i thought that bs was limited to how bad trainers train women (no matter what their goal is). myths crossing the sex lines. great.

if only it were limited to the obese couch potatoes (although that would be bad enough). pretty awesome that your gym has a tv and dvd set. i saw a dude bring a laptop and do insanity in the group ex studio. i know people here aren't the biggest proponents of such things, but as you said, it still gets people moving and working out and also gets them acclimated to the gym, perhaps encouraging them to hit the weight room in the future.

does she care? serious question. cuz for some it's solely abt the scale or something else and they don't realize or maybe don't care that they'd ust be a smaller version of themselves. and also don't know abt the metabolic advantage if muscle (playing into the weight thing). yeah, tons of cults out there. paleo, crossfit, etc. i hate when people try pushing something on you. does she try to get you to 'convert' you? i hope not. then i'd tell her off.

Hope you all don't mind me adding my latest run in with ignorance........my boyfriend works with this girl, very overweight, lazy, candy and pizza eater....you get the point. Anyways, she showed him these pictures of a girl who was in great shape. Her explanation? "The only reason she is that skinny, is becausde she does cocaine." What the what?!?!? Of course my boyfriend was on that comment quickly and told her that no, the reason she is fit, is because she watches what she eats and exercises. Imagine that.....we are all on drugs according to this girl hahaha.

Why does it not surprise me that it's always the unhealthy people who say dumb crap like that?
Your boyfriend was kind with his response to her very inaccurate statement. He should have shown her a picture of a regular coke user and compared the differences. What a dummy!

I'd have to think she would care since she goes on about how great it is when her muscles pop, etc. And when she posts every other minute on Facebook, she says how great muscle is. But at the same time, she is so focused on the scale. So I don't know. She was taking her PT cert exam the other day. She was doing the case studies or whatever you have to do for the cert.

more dr oz bs. one day he is having different diets for different body types, but this time it was a similar thing but w/ an "expert" and the groups were people who gain in their stomach vs those who gain in their bum. the former were suppose to eat a lot of protein and eat like a "hunter" and have fewer meals, no breakfast, go by hunger. the latter were like farmers and should also have more carbs and avoid dairy. why? b/c of the fat. first, no, but second, hello, skim milk and lf or ff dairy? instead he said soy milk, not that there's anything wrong w/ that. an "expert" on the other day said unsweetened almong milk is a good choice b/c it's high in protein. um, almonds have protein, almond milk, no. so unsweetened almond milk is great, but more just for cal savings or if you're lactose intolerant. another epi was about how many people are overweight b/c of food, particularly lactose, allergies. way to take self-responsibility away. every epi has something wrong w/ it, even if it's not abt diet/nutrition. it always gets to me, but i continue to have it as my background, while-making-dinner noise.

that's the one thing abt issa i do like. some are all multiple choice. i think ones that have workshops are best and online the worst, but many are all multiple choice, but you learn more and also show your knowledge better in things like case studies. i wonder how she's train. what kinds of routines she'd make for clients.

If I read the phrase lean muscle, specifically "I want lean muscle!", one more time, I might need to hurt someone. It always makes me go, "I don't! I want mine well-marbled like an expensive fukcing steak." Is this one of those magazine buzzwords like clean eating that the media implants in people's brains or something?

I say "lean muscle" merely to reinforce the fact that muscle is indeed hard/compact/small and not bulky. Especially for new women on these forums who balk at anything akin to "bulking" "surplus" or "over maintenance," associating those words with "gaining lean muscle" is usually conducive to more listening and less arguing.

Teeny rant of the day: My mother. She asks me for help losing weight, so I explain the notion of a caloric deficit to lose weight and why it is better to start lifting now rather than cardio-ing the weight off first. I go out and buy a barbell and fifty pounds of weight so she can do some work in our living room because she refuses to go to the gym. I tell her to track her calories so she knows exactly what she's eating.
Yeah, there has been no tracking. I'm the only one who uses the weights. And she's currently babbling about some "fat flush" diet book she borrowed from a friend at work. I'll just be over here ripping my hair out...

Self-fulfilling prophecy
Oh my lord how did I JUST NOW find this thread?! Amazing.
One of my personal favorites is people PMing me after having seen my transformation story. I welcome the comments and questions most of the time, but people asking me what I do to stay in shape or "How do I get your abs" is starting to drive me nuts. I POSTED MY EXACT WORKOUTS AND A SAMPLE MEAL PLAN ON THE DAMN SITE! What else do you want me to do? Go to the gym and do the workouts for you?
The other one I get all the time is "How much running do you do?". None these days. Yes, really. I haven't run a single step in literally like 8 weeks, and before then it was only maybe twice a week because I'm in the miltary and I HAVE to run.
Why does everyone assume you're lying to them when you give them advice or answer their questions? We must all be in on this big conspiracy where we have the real secrets but we feed everyone else crap so that they aren't competition for us. You must have the abdominal decoder ring and know the secret handshake to get the real information...

The posts that I don't get are the critique my diet ones. What you eat is so up to you!!!! Most of the time they are repetitively eating 3 ounces of chicken/tilapia, 1/2 cup green beans, 6 almonds and a gazillion protein shakes and supps. Egads! Drives me insane
OMG...me too!! This forum has become inundated with the same questions being asked over & over! I just recently returned to try to find some help for specific needs, but haven't even thought about posting anything until I've searched high & low! Sigh..................

I just have to get this rant off my chest.
Saturday I was at the local 24 Hour Fitness kicking my a$$ when in walks this "exercise in a bottle" meat head who then spends the following half hour (maybe more than that, but I left afterwards) strutting the gym, exhibiting his muscles all over the place, chatting, talking, admiring himself in the mirror... and not touching a single frigging weight. Seriously, he did not do one rep of anything. He just went there to prance around like a frigging peacock. Get a life!!! Plus if you touched the weights more, you may need less "exercise in a bottle", who knows?
I try to rep back, but I always neg back.

Meh, it's sort of like saying "shoulder press" or "overhead shoulder press" versus "press" or "overhead press". Really, there's no need to put "shoulder" in there and it's implied to anyone who actually lifts. Not so much for outsiders.

I have a friend who is CONSTANTLY insisting that I need to eat. I have told her time and again that I do eat; in fact, I eat a lot. All she ever says when she sees me is that there is no way I look like this and eat anything. Whatever!!!
Then I have another friend who just started to work out to get in shape for the summer(*sigh*) and is weight training one day a week with a trainer friend of ours and doing classes the other days. I had gone to dinner with her a couple weeks ago and was telling her I am bulking and explaining the process with the surplus of calories, etc. She said, "That's the best thing I ever heard - I won't feel guilty eating cheeseburgers now!" *facepalm* This is my best friend and God love her but I can see it now - "Dani told me I can eat a lot and it will turn to muscle. So why am I gaining weight?" But that won't happen lifting one day a week - not to mention she told me she is so weak that she can barely lift any weight, which is okay. Heavy is relative. But she has kids that she picks up - don't tell me you can't curl more than 5 pounds when you're picking your kids up.

True story! How could I have forgotten it's so easy to gain muscle and tone lifting one day a week?
I posted this pic of Jamie Eason on my Facebook a couple hours ago - she's curling a dumbbell and it's captioned, "How about some guns to go with that little black dress?" Under construction
A friend of mine is trying to lose weight and had a trainer at the gym do an exercise prog and nutrition plan for her. 3 weeks in and she is up 4lbs, but is insisting it's because of the muscle she has put on from lifting her 2lb dumbells twice a week for the past three weeks.

what about bench press? incline bench press? decline bench press?
the problem i have with 'lean' muscle it that it (falsely) implies you can gain muscle without gaining fat or 'bulk'. at least the way i read it.
another variation would be 'sexy lean muscle' which irks me even more for some reason. maybe i should get my head checked.

touche.
but again, just explaining why I personally use the word, since I've been known to do so from time to time. I've also said 'lean bulking' on occasion, so maybe I should get my head checked 'Lean' really is a buzzword around here.
don't think I've seen anyone on these forums say 'sexy lean muscle' though, thank goodness.

yeah, there's a lot of noise between the intended meaning of a message and how it's decoded.
it's pretty easy to throw around 'phrases' that implicitly state something that cannot be verified upon criticism, because it was never explicitly declared. so go fuk yourself, i never said it. nyah nyah nyah nyah.
i'm a pedantic asswipe myself though.

relatedly, when people start lifting and insist the scale goes up and it must be muscle b/c they're eating clean and lifting to boot. really, still at a surplus, just w/ 'healthier' foods.

I just got back from the gym and there was this girl I know in there plugging these stupid wraps yet again. She had some poor girl all too ready to hand over her some money because she wants to lose weight (the girls were there to tan not workout).
