Hate the guides freezing. It makes fishing in cold temperatures difficult and colder because it's cold as **** to break ice off the guides.

Caught a bunch more striper tonight. All small but still fun to get out. Took a buddy out with my other Hobie but the current got to be a bit munch for him.

I think they move up and down the coast. So you have a spring season and a fall season. Kinda like pompano in the gulf.

So there are two ways you can look at it. There are resident fish in the bay year round that are too young to migrate. Those I’ll fish for from March-December when I’m just looking to wet a line. You can go out basically whenever and catch a few. I’ll usually target them early season when nothing else is going on, or in the summer when the big fish leave and the sharks haven’t shown up yet.

Around late April to early June, we start to get the big migrating fish. Those I’m fishing for at night on the beach, mostly in inlet rips. Spring is generally a night time game.

Fall is opposite. When those big fish start coming back down from Maine or higher, they are chasing big bait during the day and there is not too much night action. You basically have to hope that bait comes close to shore or else you won’t have a shot at any big fish. Unfortunately last few years with all of the beach replenishment, the bait hasn’t been coming close at all. You’re not supposed to fish for them outside 3 miles from shore, but that’s where the bulk of the fall fish are. I know some guys that do it catch and release but the coast guard may bother you about it.

Yeah 2x. I popped the dents the best I could. I really don’t care enough to pay to get it fixed. Whenever this dies I’m getting a 4Runner or f150 so I can drive on the beach.

Can I use a texas or carolina rig and just use like 6-7 of these on the line?

When I get home in a few days, I will try (assuming I didn't just junk them already). Either way, they're useless for anything I fish for. Trout streams around here are too strong for that little bit to do much good.

I prefer a bit heavier, like 5g total if using floats (I like them to be barely above water) or around 1-2g if drifting. Some of the streams have stronger current. If I still have the real small ones I will give them a go this summer drifting in a smaller stream that I want to try.

That should work quite nicely. I keep eyeballing the new Raymarine units, man they look slick. Not sure about the mapping and all that I've pretty much always stuck with Lowrance.

Have you tried it? If not you’d love it. We just do it off the shore in Mexico. But if ever get back into shape I’m going try some offshore bluewater stuff. Holding your breath is hard

I've not but I've known people who will take their bay boats out to the nearshore rigs a few miles out on calm days, spear all sorts of crap out there. Seen guys spearfishing at the jetty as well on clear calm days. I know it'd be a whole new addiction if I ever get in the water, definitely on my list. I like to hunt and hunting fish seems like best of both worlds. One of the YouTube channels I'm always on is the Youngbloods Spearfishing channel out of Australia, some good stuff. They do a lot of catch & cook stuff with fish and lobster.
