Usually it's not too terrible to get the hooks out, but I've destroyed a few pairs of plyers and channel locks while trying to twist. We also carry bolt cutters so we can just cut the hook and slide out the pieces. The hooks supposedly rot out but I'm skeptical and seen a few tests that seem to suggest they don't rot out as quickly as claimed so I always feel better getting the hook completely out before releasing. Sharks can't lunge forward so you're safe as long as you don't put your hands in their mouths. Also they pivot in the middle so the head and tail swing back and forth but the middle portion of the body pretty much stays put so you can stand over them pretty easy. The larger sharks will be a long battle and tend to just chill when you bring them up, the smaller ones are the ones that go ape on the sand but they're easier to handle since you can lock them down. Smaller stuff is usually done like this:

I was so happy to return to the misc and see the fishing crew going strong.
School and now my internship are eating into my fishing time a lot lately. And, now Im a true miscer (I dont even lift).
Tourney season started this past week. Prefished the lake a few days prior and got into them pretty good. I caught this pig and my partner caught another that was equally as good plus some other solid fish in the 2 lb range. We thought we were good to go. Think those fish showed themselves tourney day? Hell no! Ended up coming in with a limit of dinks, biggest was about 13.5".

Hit a new lake, was about halfway between where my parents and I live so I met my father there, a bit of a hike at 90 minutes away but it was beautiful, clearest freshwater I have seen, nothing over 3lbs but pulled in rock bass, smallies, and large mouth all day long, and I for once outfished pops. Lake was big and only hit the south end, look forward to going back to try the north. Wanted to get out today but chores around the house need to be done :/ hopefully I get out again this week.
Also, just got a xioami yi (budget gopro), my kayak has gopro mounts so I look forward to getting pics of catches soon, most of the time too lazy to dig phone out of the day hatch.12-5-23

tfw becoming obsessed with saltwater / Long Island Sound fishing...
brb stripers, blues, fluke
brb feel lucky to have all that just an hour or so away
brb now spending a day catching 2-4lb LM/SM bass on inland lakes feels kinda poverty (still enjoy it alot for just chilling back, drinking a couple beers, smoking some "tobacco", etc)
I'm planning to take my kayak down to the sound... gonna start slow and fish some chill bays and shiet, gonna wait till the moon is between full/new phases for less srs currents.
I cant stop fantasizing about hooking a big fish from the yak out on the ocean.

I love winter and having 4 seasons, I really missed it when I lived down south but the thought of living on the coast and fishing every day in the ocean is so hnnnnnnnng.

Got out yesterday for a few hours, quite a few walleye and some pretty decent pike. Had fish actually snap hooks and pull apart leaders, would have liked to land them. Lost one trophy walleye that felt like I was pulling in a log.

It's right around new moon time so I had to go get some morning fishing in today. I was out on the water at 5 am, right before sunrise.
This lil body of water is super shallow... average of like 4 ft of water and it gets overgrown like a mother fcuker. People don't fish it that much so there are monsters living there. I've seen pics of people pulling 5-6 pound bass out of here.
I was slanging frogs all morning as there are lily pads/grass everywhere. The bite was ridiculous, it seemed like I got a strike every other cast. Good times.

Just got back from Canada. Caught a lot of fish, but nothing crazy huge. Got some 28" Walleyes and 38" Northern. Best catch was when I netted a 35" northern with my 12" walleye in its jaws.

Took a break from bar exam prep this morning to do some quick fishing out in my backyard. Caught some yellow bass for lunch. Just used medium leeches and small minnows tipped on a jig head a couple feet under a float bobber. They're not native to our lake but they do taste pretty good.

Installed a Shaw Wing on my little hunting boat. Probably going to be running around next weekend testing water pressure and get that jack plate raised up a notch or two. The factory cut was a little dirty, I actually had to take the router to it to expand and straighten it out in spots.

Hit up a new pond yesterday between pop up thunderstorms, caught a couple bass but nothing of any size.
Top water frogs through thick moss FTW.
I put white labels on my rod to indicate 12", 16", and 20" so this one was about 13".

lol nice. You know it's a good day when you run out of cooler space or have to chop fish up to fit them in. I've yet to be offshore in the yak yet but use them to send out large baits to soak off the beach. One of these days I'll make it way out, probably have to buy a Hobie with the pedal drive then.
