You can get the o rings for cheap and just use the end of a sharpie marker or large pen.
I never try anything I just do it!

Got out and waded the river today. Caught about 15 smallies, a couple striped bass, and 2 bluegill.
Largest bass was about 13", not even worth taking a picture of.
Mepps size 1 spinner with buck tail, brown tube jig, and 4" floating joined Rapala.

We have had crazy rain and my normal spot I put in road is completely under water. Went back to this spot which is normally walkable with a slight bit of water through it that was completely flooded. Caught two striped I believe these are and hooked a few more that got spit out.

Unless I have to I don't like retying. Usually I will if nothing else has worked (or the line has taken a beating) and by this time it's already four hours in. To retie straight shank or whatever else is on to weedless would be tedious on the strip mines most of these tourneys are on. But I'm going to check out that other method, seems like a great way to do it. There's a lot, and I mean a lot of trees, tires, even old carts under the water. I lost a fish head spin this past weekend on a branch four feet deep lol Pulled it all the way out of the water, got my hand on it then the line snapped. The only thing they were biting on also. All I have left is a 1/4 oz in my tackle now. Least it's a cheap lure to replace.
Was supposed to take the yak out this weekend but since it's supposed to rain the whole time figured I might take my new Springfield out to the range near the campsite. Going to pick it up from my parents on the way home and bring it to the house. Going to throw it in the pool and see what it takes to flip it My garage isn't built for holding an 80lb, 12'6" kayak so need to come up with a better solution. Most of the lakes near my campsite are fine for shore fishing but there's two bigger ones I've barely touched.
Edit: And you all know I'm still new to this. Really only my third year fishing, second tourney fishing after over a decade of doing nothing. So correct me if I'm wrong. Hell I went from spinning reel in my first year to baitcaster in my second so I'm trying to pick up tips, techniques, etc. as much as possible. My father-in-law said I'm his partner and doesn't want anyone else and he's been in this club for 30 years. His other two son-in-laws aren't into this stuff nearly as much and don't take his criticism well at all. Furthest I got to placing was 4th of 18 boats a month ago. Kentucky Lake chit all over me because they weren't aggressive on buzzbait like I'm used to. Probably lost five bass and two of those being keepers. Was almost ready to just say fck it and quit fishing tournaments altogether but he told me I've paid my dues and when we win it will be worth. Skipping the Crab Orchard one this weekend to go camping and practice on the smaller lakes though.

Got a boat last year (Boston Harbor) but wasn't able to do much fishing. This year I'm gearing up and learning from locals and planning on hitting the water at least once a week with a rod. Boat is a bit of a gas suck but let's me bring a couple guys to split gas.

any suggestions for a beginner? my son really likes fishing (he's only 4) and I want to take him more
we are fishing flooded creeks and one little pond in Mississippi - mainly catfish, maybe brim and crappie - not really targeting a specific species
want to get a decent spin caster/rod for me
looking at ugly stick medium and a penn spincaster
sound like a decent setup or no? don't mind spending a little money for something that will last a lifetime that can be passed down but don't want to spend more than needed as I'm not an avid fisherman at this moment~MFC~

Was at Costco yesterday and they had a killer looking kayak for sale for $399.
http://www.equinoxkayaks.com/product...gler-12-0.html
I have a small winding river within a mile of my house that I have caught smallies and pike from shore. Would love to get into yak fishing.
May have to got there tonight to pick it up.
Any "must" recommendations I need for a fishing kayak?Last edited by ThatOneBigKid; 05-28-2015 at 11:13 AM.

Can basically make anything work over time. You will start setting/prepping it to your liking. I bought just a generic one that was on sale. Mine does not have fish holders, just some drain holes that I keep my rods in so the one you are looking at would probably do a lot better than mine. I strap my life vest to the back bungees, and stick my backpack which carries my water/snacks/telescopic poles. Put my tackle box under the front bungees but is pretty hard to reach, have to scoot up and grab it. Definitely not very space efficient.

Finally got out for some decent largemouth action. 5-10 fish, a few 3lbers, nothing great but this is the beginning of bass action here. Love my new kayak, the Jackson Big Tuna, GOAT kayak. Rolled without the tuna tank and I find having the big hole nice, made a great place to piss inconspicuously.

Thanks man, repped.
I am thinking that I will have 3 rods with me. One in each holder and one in my hand. I plan on having my life vest with my food and misc strapped to my back bunk. I'll have my small river tackle box strapped to the front. I am also going to carry a 5lb anchor and 10ft for cord with me to hold me in the current when I want to make multiple casts to one area. Got that idea from a guy at work that said it works awesome. Kayak has a 420lb weight rating so the extra 5lbs is nothing.Tolerance and apathy are the last virtues of a dying society. ~ Aristotle

Easy to make one of these for shallow waters. I made one last year.
Here's a question for you all. What's the point of having only one power pole? Won't you just spin around in circles? There's at least one or two people in the club that only have one, the other people that have power poles have two. Seems pointless to only have one, just shell out the extra money for a second one.

05-29-2015, 09:52 PM #4680Friday night. Date night in Miami. Every night is a date night in Miami, and everyone's having sex. But for me, sex never enters into it. I don't understand sex. Not that I have anything against women, and I certainly have an appropriate sensibility about men, but when it comes to the actual act of sex, it's always just seemed so undignified. But I have to play the game.
