    Not much..just get you good at doing pushups.

    We do tons of push-ups in the army, and I don't know of a singler person who got a large chest doing only pushups.

    Before I started benching I actively did push ups(50 a day, worked my way up to 200-300 a day) for a few months. Worked wonders - my chest grew a **** ton eating around 2200 calories a day, as well as shoulders/triceps. Only problem is, since I only really did squats/deadlifts in the gym, my biceps were lagging hard.

    It was, to me, a great way to get a bigger upper body along with pull ups/chin ups. Like one or two others have pointed out though, if you're already benching body-weight or above, the gains may not be as noticeable.

    Really make sure to emphasize form, none of that phaggy half push up crap I see people doing, both those in shape, and those out of shape.

    Avi's a year old, so yeah. Don't base it off that.

    op, in all seriousness, doing the pushups won't hurt you, but your body will adapt to it pretty quickly and then gains will be minimal if not nonexistent. it is far easier to get bigger and stronger in the gym. but do the push ups if you want

    I don't know why we've had a few posts saying that push ups don't work. They sure as hell do. A good mix of lifting and push ups will build a solid chest.

    Sometimes after I finish a set, I'll drop down and do push-ups till failure. I like it, gives me a good pump.

    SMH @ anyone who thinks it'd have no visual effect... there's this odd wave of opinions around here lately that are more reflective of reading articles ABOUT working out as opposed to opinions from people who do it... minor changes in hand/arm position/angles can make a HUGE difference

    I started by doing that program and to some extent it is just cardio after a while but if you're skinny as **** (0 muscle) then it will build some muscle. But weights are more effective, if you have access.

    Though it will help opposed to do nothing mixing it with dips would probably help buld a chest up more than just push ups, if equipment is very limited.
