I think it's better too!
Now, try to pull with your back at the same time. It looks like you pull the bar to your upper thigh THEN you pull the bar in the air with your back. Try to do these movement at the same time. It looks like there is a micro paused once your reach your upper thigh.☆ ☆ QUEBEC CREW ☆ ☆

Yeah I gotta work on timing and sequencing still.
Considering the other day was kinda useless I'll take the progression if next time is more fluid haha.
Then I can start getting my clean on point toothe latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

Great vid man! A technical on the grip; you index fingers are on the outer ring ( if it's an oly bar) ?

Yeah it's an Oly bar with knurling all the way to the ends.
And for me my index fingers on the outer ring puts the bar exactly in my hip crease.
Some people hold the bar a lot further out if they have longer arms.

It's really interesting to see/read the technical aspects of the lift. Checking out that snatch video, I'm curious to watch you progress there. I think you'll get to a point where you can really explode that off the floor given your deadlift.

It reminds me of learning a golf swing. Technical and explosive and requires a lot of concentration and athleticism.
Hopefully you're right about being to explode off the floor down the line.
I think once I get a few weeks under my belt I'll be a little more fluid with the moment.the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

I might not know what i'm talking about, but it looks like you need to keep a straighter bar path on those snatches. looks like its coming into your crotchal area which kills some of the momentum of it driving upwards. also making the 2nd part of your lift more of a swing when I think you are suppost to kinda snap under it.
i should also note that I have never even tryed this lift.. so feel free to ignore meMy Powerlifting Journal =

No those are all accurate based on the research I have been doing haha.
I am going to be trying to move away from what I am currently doing and attempt to be more vertical on my pull and attempt to get under the bar a lot faster.
This will HOPEFULLY facilitate getting a nice sweep to my bar path as keep that momentum going.
I had a post earlier I deleted, because it was too nonsensical about the fact I kinda do the old school jump and shrug technique too much, but I want to start attempting more of "catapult" style as the call it which involves getting under the bar a lot faster.
edit: it involves less about getting a full "triple extension" which can lead to over pulling(like me) and results in a violent hip extension to keep momentum going and since your feet are more firmly planted to the ground you can transition under the bar quicker.
easier said than done......hahahaLast edited by Filmbuff81; 11-19-2012 at 04:42 PM.

Word of advice, when you snatch (for now) make sure you're doing full snatches. Your power snatch will not translate over to what you can do in the full motion, and eventually you'll be limited. For ex, I've power snatched 180, but I'm wobbly under 135 in the full snatch. Theoretically, given my PS, I could've been full snatching 205+ had I focused on bringing up my proficiency in the lift.

Thanks for the tip. The more I was reading the last couple days the more I realized I am going to need to cut out the power options in the program I chose.
I'll keep hang variations in, but yeah I will definitely try to just do full snatches and not cut anything high!the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

your positions on those snatches are good, you are hitting the right points
BUT
you are slowing down your pull as the bar reaches your hips. Try going a little slower off the floor, and then right below the knee, pull it like you are trying to rip the head off of a ****ing lion (Donny Shankle quote)
I think part of your issue is that the weight is hella light, but the positions look pretty damn good
GET AGGRESSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep at it though, you'll improve rapidly
and then you will find little **** to always improve, and it's never ending, hahaBryan

Cycle 1 - Week 1 - Day 5
Snatch
Bar x 5
95 2x2
115x0,0,0
105x0,1,1
115x1,0
Clean and jerk
115x2
135x2
135x1
155x1 (missed jerk, didn't dip low enough to lockout)
165x1 didn't attempt a jerk
Was supposed to front squat, but since I spent more time on snatches I ran out of time.
I need to do the lifts way more than they are programmed currently to get technique nailed.
I was hopping forward a bit today.
Jerk felt a little foreign to me today, so going to hammer home the lifts a bit more going forward.
Still really need to work on an aggressive 2nd pull too.
I tried a little slower to start, but timing felt off because I was obviously going too slow.
Eventually I just said **** it on snatches and started lifting and at least I finally started hitting the weights haha.
Still feel/look like I pull way too early on cleans.
Any tips on how to keep my arms dangling like noodles?
I will post video later after I splice it all together at work.
Also I think eventually if possible I will need to start working out at night.
Trying to be explosive at 7am with snatches and cleans is a little tough. LOTS of warming up haha.the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

Haha yeah. I am filming every set and reviewing now. I know what to look for on my snatches for the most part and can kinda correct them, but my cleans not so much.
So a lot of watching demos and tape haha.
My jerk technique is fine, but I have to get used to the heavier loads overhead. I can push press around 170ish, but the jerk is a different beast for me to say the least.the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.
