Losing fat is a function of having a calorie deficit. Doing high reps, eg 20 reps, may theoretically burn more calories than eg 8 reps due to the increased volume and time under tension but the effect is minimal. Lifting heavier weights is usually better for maintaining muscle mass when you lose fat.

    Yea NZninja101 was spot on.

OP, are you just starting to workout recently? If yes, then is it possible to pack on muscle while you shed fat.

Look up Starting Strength or 5x5.

Here is a great thread with tons of information, courtesy of kethnabb. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...24&pagenumber=
-Having a big tool box is great but it means nothing if you lack a set of standard screwdrivers and a hammer.
-The Pareto principle: 80% of the effects are from 20% of causes. All the other small details will only affect a small portion of results, 80% of causes will contribute to 20% of the effects.

Go heavy, low reps and have a calorie deficit.

4 time Mr olympia Jay Cutler said the biggest misconception in getting cut is high rep with low weight. He said to get ripped is based around cardio and diet. If you think about it, its very true.

find out how many calories you use a day, i.e. if you ate this many calories your weight would not change. Take away 500, get on a good beginner weightlifting program, and you will see results
