Does anyone else momentarily black out when lifting heavy? Only happens to me while squatting or deads, and not every time. However, it is more than I would prefer. Any idea what could be the reason for this? I do not believe that I am holding my breath or anything. Color me confused.

not falling out blackout, but occasionally i see stars once i rack the weight on a max effort lift but never during.
from what i hear, seeing stars (being lightheaded) for a sec or 2 is pretty common on max effort lifts like squats and deads.
assuming you're healthy, I think it either boils down to breathing technique or sheer effort (bloodflow during max effort stuff).
i usually try to keep a bench close and water/drink nearby to sip between sets when going all out. It helps.

Check your blood pressure, now. Also happens alot when ppl don't eat alot before workout, as soon as a client starts to black out, Im ask when is the last time they ate (and it will be like 6-7hr since they have eaten). If you don't eat, your B/P drops, when you lift it flys up and the change can make you dizzy.

for squats i have gotten a little light headed kinda saw spots, i end up changing how I was holding the weight, rather than having the bar on my shoulders behind my head, i now hold it in the front rested on the upper chest area, problem solved, a little hard though, i think that maybe the weight was pressing on a blood vessel or somethin

I used to have an actual momentary black-out during a 10-reps of Deadlifting. As far as I felt, it was due to breathing problems.
Now, I have a frequent pseudo-black out during squatting due to fatigue, breathing and probably mental tension.[Watdo?] - Want (''should'' for you naggers) bulk.

Same thing happened to my roommate on squats last semester, he blacked clean out midset. he told me after that he hadn't eaten yet that day (it was 2 in the afternoon). Thank god i was spotting him or it might have ended up badly.
Based off of that. Eat at least an hour prior and hydrate all day long

I might get light headed after deadlifts/squats since I do them together or get the "tv/buzz ear effect."
Good circulation (no tight clothes) and breathing has a lot to do with it. I train for strength and take a good three to four minutes between my last two sets on my 5x5s.
Another theory I personally have is a lot of the PWO involves caffeine which constricts your blood vessels along with heavy weights and then putting it all down for rest makes your blood pressure drop really fast all at once. Gives you that feeling of a light headed 'blood rush'5x5....last sets:
squat- 205x5
deadlift- 215x5
overhead press- 105x5
bench- 185x5
standing bicep curl-70x5
