to that point, wouldn't you be the perfect choice? the women and children that were killed theoretically did not align themselves with the military so the "eye for an eye" methodology you are calling for would require innocent, non-military americans to be killed. perhaps you should offer yourself up for the cause.
your logic is ignorant at best--and you call for vengeance as if the death of someone elses father, or son is going to bring those innocent people back.

This is probably what's going to happen. Here's the thing: back when the Taliban were in control, civilian casualties weren't as high as they are right now. Afghanis are seeing a correlation between foreign troops invading their country and the rise in the civilian death toll. Who do you think they're going to support? Even if they don't like the Taliban (which many of them don't), they're going to side with them if the Taliban promise they will offer them protection from a foreign military.
All in all, we need to get our troops back home safely.أشهد أن لا إله إلاَّ الله Ùˆ أشهد أن Ù…Øمد رسول الله

If this is the case, then what was the point of even going there to begin with?
Wasn't it obvious that this would have made things far worse in the end?
Not only did America spend billions on this campaign, but they will leave with Afghanistan hating them even more (no to mention people and countries in the region who don't appreciate them).

i don't think you appreciate that it doesn't matter what he went through. unless you're willing to start explaining away the actions of terrorists against american soldiers and civilians.
i really don't get why you pro military people are so defensive on this. there has been very little military hate in this thread, it has been directed at a specific person for a specific action. people expressing their disgust over what was a horrible and unjustified crime no matter the soldier's personal circumstances.
you guys agree it wasn't justified, you agree he should be punished. but of course since it's a soldier as soon as anyone expresses a negative opinion you guys come in with the "hey if you haven't been in combat you can't comment" bs.
anyway done arguing over this, it's pointless

No, SEALs do not cross recruit from the army. BUD/s (basic underwater demolition/SEAL) school is navy only, although once I'm awhile a soldier from an allied country will go through and then take the training back to his country. This does not mean he is a US Navy SEAL; candidates go to an additional block of training (I want to say 26 weeks) after BUD/s called SEAL Qualification Training (SQT). Only after that is a candidate awarded hos Trident. It used to be that prior service candidates could reenlist and go through training (they may have been in a different branch before, but they are Navy now) but with the recent drawdown and the huge interest in BUD/s prior service applicants are no longer accepted. On another note, unlike the Marines who recruit Navy Corpsman to accompany their platoons, the SEALs have their own medics, each also a fully qualified SEAL himself. It may have changed but usually SEAL medics are sent to the Army's 18D med course for training.
To your other question: Yes men from different branches are sent to the Army's Ranger school. The important difference is that completion of Ranger school does not make one a US Army Ranger. Completing Ranger school means that one is "Ranger Qualified". You get the tab to wear that says "Ranger", but that does not make you one. You are only an Army Ranger if you are at some point assigned the the 75th Ranger Battallion.
I do not know as much about CAD (Delta), but they do not recruit from other services. They are strictly Army, but most anyone can apply to join. That being said, most members are drawn from the Ranger Batallion and the Special Forces. Liken it to tryouts for a professional sports team, Joe schmo can try out but of course In 99 if not 100% of the time, the man with the real training and ability will be chosen. Going back to the SEALs, the PT test for getting accepted to BUD/s doesn't look that hard;
500yd swim in under 12:30
42 pushups in two minutes
50 sit-ups in two minutes
6 pull ups
1.5 mile run in under 11:00 minutes.
LOTS of people can do that. It doesn't seem that hard.
The numbers you actually NEED to get orders to BUD/s because of how competitive it is look more like this:
500 yd swim in sub 9 to 930
90-100+ pushups in two minutes
90-100+ sit-ups in two minutes
18+ pull ups
1.5 mile run, sub 9 to 9 minutes.
Appearances can be deceiving.

Partly true.
Al Qaeda's intent was to lure the U.S to Afghanistan, so they would get but raped over there (just like with the Soviets). And it seems to have worked, at least partially. And mainly by the fact that the U.S have lost allot soldiers and money during a financial crisis, making it even worse for them. Not to mention that they were fighting another war at the same time.

Shows how much the US care about their Army. They shouldnt even be letting people go on tour that are even the least bit mentally unstable. Hell I got pulled out of an Afghan tour because I was depressed over my dog + Gran dying.. But i'm British Military not US so I don't know how it works there. We just seem to be alot more "careful", we also have like 1/3 of the army the US currently has so I dunno. I just think it's their own fault for letting someone like that even go on tour, let alone leave the ****ing compound.
