# Thread: How much does a banana peel weight? (11800+ reps)

1. ## How much does a banana peel weight? (11800+ reps)

Trying to figure out the best cals/buck for a few foods and locally can buy bananas at .49/lb.
Obviously this includes the peel-->0 cals.
So per lb of bananas (454g) how many grams is actual edible banana?

3. that was quick

4. Depends how big the banana is

5. On that note, how much does the shell of a watermelon weigh?

6. [QUOTE=PhiSig2298;846756613]Gimme dem REPS[/QUOTEanswer the question

7. I weighed one also lol, the skin weighed 31grams and the total banana was 138g so 22% of the weight is skin.

Which means for 454grams of banana, 78% of it is edible which is 354.1grams ..

Hope that helps!

8. repped 2 of 2 so fat
interesting to see one person get about 60% banana and the other 78%
any others?

I'm sure you get plenty of banana

10. 0.49/lb is cheap as fukk bro.

My bananas weigh 220 grams with 170 grams banana inside the skin. (so that's ~ 77.2% lol)

I think best calories/\$ are obtained through peanuts/nuts, peanut butter, oils/butters, avocado's, fatty meats.. but that depends on location mostly.

11. ## bananas

206 total 152 edible 54 peel

already get plenty of fat, dont need to OD on omega 6, not a fan of fatty cuts of meat the local store meat is mad expensive
need more carbs, like banans, if these estimates are correct --> around 600cals/\$

Cheap carbs would be bread and pasta/rice, pancakes and such. You can buy that in bulk..

already do whole wheat flour and wheat bran
pancakes everynight
wouldnt eat rice if you paid me

16. There is no possible way to answer this question generically. It will depend on the size of the banana and the thickness of the peel. Not only that but I think it's really overanalyzing the situation.

17. Yeah, to go along with psychodiver, it would depend on how big the banana is and how ripe it is. The more ripe the banana, the thinner the peel would be.

18. last bananas I weighed:
141.5g with peal : 101.1without : ~28%peal
213.75g with peal : 142.5g without: ~33% peal

hope this helps
