I from India and i am just a student i don't earn anything so can't afford supplements such as ON whey isolate which costs around Rs 4600($100) for 5 lbs here in India. I am 5'7 138lbs right now.. (i was 110 a year ago :O ) . So i was looking for something cheap but effective.. my budget is really low Rs 1500- Rs2000 a month ($40-$45). I saw ON's Serious Mass 12lbs is quite cheap and i think i can afford it. But i am doubtful if it is really what i need because its a weight gainer and not protein supplement. i definitely wanna gain mass (no doubt) but at the same time i want to stay lean. I think i have 10 % body fat right now (calculated through various websites online..). I can slightly see my abs in the mirror. Anyways i want to gain size and at the same time i don't want to gain fat!I hate fat. What are my options? (stick to supplements while advising .. and not food )

protein powder is no more "effective" at supplying you with quality protein to help you build lean mass than any other high quality protein source such as eggs, beef, poultry, fish, etc. Go to the nutrition forum

guys you are missing the point.. i wanna know if serious mass is what i need? i know i dont eat much.. i am effeminately not on calorie surplus .. which is almost essential for muscle gains.. and thats why i think serious mass could help me .. but... i think protein to carbs ratio of serious mass is 1:5 .. which means i will not be getting enough protein which is also a requirement .. what do i do now?

So, are you choosing to not eat enough food to be in a calorie surplus? No matter what, the only way to be in a calorie surplus is if you use supplements?
If you must use supplements, then you still need to look at post #3 and calculate how many calories and grams of protein/carbs you need for the day. Then calculate how much of those you are getting from food/milk, and then select the type of protein powder that will help you reach those numbers.
Nobody hear will be able to tell you whether you need a mass gainer or just a cheap whey concentrate until you actually figure out your target calories and macros in grams.

in your case you should be hanging to every calorie u can put your hands on. fat in eggs is good fat, eat it and don't worry about it. and btw, eat A WHOLE EGG, not just whites.

the answer youre looking for is british nutritions platinum standard whey protein but the problem is its currently out of production but according to my supplier they are going to start production very soon and btw milk is by far the cheapest source of protein in india if youre calorie intake agrees with it

So, I have been noticing that Whey Protein Supplements (specifically) are about 50-100% costlier in India than in the US, if you just covert the currencies. The cheapest Whey Blend brand here would make a single serving be around $1.50. Whereas, even on bb dot com, most brands have single servings ranging from $0.4 to $1. On the other hand, Soy protein, Creatine Mono are cheaper in India.

Try Ultimate nutrition from original Paradise Nutrition site
Since most Whey are very costly in India due to Import duties, I did a lot of research knowing which is the cheapest yet the best.
ON Whey is no doubt the leader, but it doesn't tell the amount of amino acids it delivers in per serving, unlikely no one tells you this.
BUT... Ultimate Nutrition, founded in 1979, some 10 years prior to ON, tells you the exact amount of nutrients it delivers you in every stack, I was like yeah, this is something real.
Also, it gives about 25 gms of quality protein in 30 gm scoop, that's 1 gm higher than ON, also, you won't need to stack extra BCAA, Glutamine, etc with it coz its complete.
10 lbs of Ultimate Nutrition from the authenticated Indian retailer site cost 10199 and you can be sure of the Genuine product. ON on the other hand if you don't buy from the originial NUELIFE store, be prepared to get the Local stuff.
Try 10 LBs Prostar Ultimate Nutrition protein and stack it with Ultimate Nutrition Creatine, just 500 a bottle (5gm) and don't do the loading phase of it and cycle every 2 months.

Judging from your picture, you might want to consider Universal Nutrition Gain Fast 3100. It's 2.5lbs for 11.52 or 19.50 for 5.1lbs—which is just absolutely phenomenal. You also shouldn't need more than 2 scoops, which should help to stretch it out farther.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/univ/gain.html
It's also an amazingly comprehensive product, containing stand-alone aminos, a micronutrient array, metabolic optimizers, creatine monohydrate, anabolic gaining agents, and also a digestive enzyme complex to aid in the digestion and absorption of proteins and carbs. That last one is really important, and most protein supplements do not include this, so if you do get a different product, you'll definitely want to consider getting an enzyme supplement to aid in the digestion and absorption of your protein powder.
Universal Nutrition Milk & Egg protein is a really great second option. It's a very clean source of protein, contains a micronutrient array, and is just 12.95 for 21 servings.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/univ/milkandegg.html
It doesn't include any of the other bonuses, but you can get them both and combine them for the same price as your average Muscle Milk 2lb container at the local grocery store for $20. That itself is yet another option available to you. Muscle Milk tends to be rather base line on their prices and their product is very fluffy and top notch.
One more thing you should be aware of, is that protein comes in three different primary forms. There is isolate, there is concentrate, and there is hydrolyzed. Each form has a distinct properties to them, that aid our dietary nutrition in different ways.
Isolate is a pure form of protein, that has been isolate from, and stripped of, all its macronutrient sub-fractions. This makes it a great type of protein to take before bed, giving you a full supply of pure protein without anything else to possibly weigh you down.
Concentrate is a raw form of protein, closest to whole foods, because it still contains all of its macronutrient sub-fractions (such as carbs and fats). This makes it a great protein to take before very heavy exercise, as well as a very great protein to take if you're trying to bulk up. Protein concentrate can help to give you a clean calorie surplus, that's needed to bulk up—yet given the complexity especially demands some digestive enzyme support.
Hydrolyzed protein is a form of protein, where the whole protein has been broken down into its amino acid counterparts through the processes of hydrolysis. In this process, a molecule of water is added to the protein compound, causing it to split and break apart. This process bypasses what our natural digestive process would do, making it a great protein to take pre-workout—in order to boost your protein consumption—without overstressing your digestive system. Hydrolyzed protein can be put straight to work, helping to aid in fueling the intensity of your exercise.
These are the basics you're going to want to familiarize yourself with before you start taking protein, because the dietary techniques that you use make a world of difference in the end... ... [Red Bar Crew] ... ..
