This is basically how I piece together my diets and it works all my clients.
1. Determine maintenance level of caloric intake.
2. Add or subtract appropriate number of calories (roughly 500 is best) to ensure either weight gain or weight loss (all depending on one's goals obviously)
3. Get in 1-1.5 grams of protein per lb of lean body mass (LBM)
4. Get in roughly .4-.5 grams of fat per lb of LBM
5. Take the number of calories you're taking in via protein and dietary fat and subtract that from your caloric goals, whether it is you're cutting or gaining
then the next part is a real doozy...ready for it?...wait...
6. Fill in the remaining calories left with WHATEVER THE HECK YOU WANT! Carbohydrates, Fats, Protein, it all works. Go low carb, go high carb, higher protein, higher fat, a mixture of all three, whatever works for you on a given day.
If you want to eat whole grain bread, oats, brown rice, etc. etc. Then do it. If you want to eat white bread, white rice, and pop tarts, as long as it fits in with your other macronutrients and your goals in terms of caloric intake it isn't going to make much of a difference in the long run. It all comes down to personal preference .Online Training Services available. PM me for details.

In!
No brain, no gain.
