So I just started today,
I am at 5'10, 120 lbs, yeah... that tall skinny kid. Age: 17, Male
I am starting out by drinking 1 protein shake consisting of about 1200 calories (900 calories in protein powder, and the rest in 2 cups of milk.) I drink 1 in the morning, at lunchtime I will eat a normal meal that is healthy, estimating between 500-700 calories.
3:30 I work out, lift weight for about an hour until I am exhausted: pushups, biceps, triceps, traps, pecks, and legs...
around 4:30 immediately after my workout I will have another one of those shakes, so another 1200 calories, then I have dinner at about 6:30... then about 30mins-1hour before bed I will have another shake.
So in total I am consuming nearly 5000 calories a day... at 120lbs I am hoping to gain weight quickly, and build muscle.
Any tips, suggestions?
Thanks.

Make sure your doing lifts that use multiple muscles, don't focus on isolated exercises. Since your new to lifting do a lot of squats and incline bench press along with military press. Slow and controlled reps work good for me to putting on size. And for the protein shakes thats gonna add up on cost real fast, the type of supp i would recommend would be a pre workout to make sure your pumped in the gym and know your getting quality work outs.

**** worst diet I have seen in a long time I don't know **** about bodybuidling but I know that you shouldn't just drink shakes and eat 2 meals a day that is terrible man. Start eating at least 5 meals a day and just drink one shake a day after a workout and don't hit 5000 calories a day its just stupid man eat no more then 2700 calories as you want to gain muscle not fat.
2700 calories is enough for you to bulk up while gaining some decent amount of muscle with out the huge amount of fat.
You are trying to hard kid start working out like normal people and eating like normal people not some dumb kid which thinks supplement> >>>>>>> food.
Sort your diet out and then look up some decent routines as I am pretty sure right now you go into the gym almost everyday run around all the machines in the gym and lift few dumbbells then go home.

So you are saying that its healthy for him to drink 3 x 1200 calories shakes. Why do bodybuilders eat anything when they can just make few shakes which only takes few minutes and they will get huge gains within few days.
Why don’t you share your diet with us I bet you don’t rely on 3 shakes and you are not hitting 5000 calories a day like op.

Vangoro, your a greenhorn stop being such a baby and ignore the "meanies"
As for your diet, 5k calories is way to much for someone your size and don't even try to talk to me about your super human metabolism or your special ectomorph figure.
I bet you could bulk on 2800-3000 calories easy, as long as you hit all your macros.
Read all of the stickies in this section THOROUGHLYI admit all my threads suck :(

Start off with less calories first, say around 3000. Which is what a normal 120 lbs should be looking at consuming per day to gain weight. If you're having trouble gaining weight with that then increase it by 200-500 calories. Don't rush it.
I've learnt that most you should be looking to gain is around 2-3 kg a month. Even if you're an ecto, you shouldn't be looking to gain too much too soon unless you really want to be obese then by any means just continue to eat 5000 calories and you'll be well on your way. Try to sway away from relying on mass gainers (high calorie protein shakes), it'll only ruin you for times when you don't have it anymore and you're struggling to make progress because you can't get in the calories. I'd say consume at least 2000 calories in proper foods (i.e. eggs, chicken, steak etc.)

Youd be better off drinking 2.5l of milk a day than drinking those shakes to start with im not that big myself an when i first started i was using mutantmass expensive and didnt put anything on my arms at all, also i recommend peanuts and cashews or almonds to snack on in the day, 50grms is 1100kj theres 4.65 cals in divide that number between the enerjy content like 1100 divided by 4.65 an work out your cal intake, dont push yourself too hard and be consistant, you dont grow over night start with 3000 cals a day and weigh yourself weekly if you dont put on any weight then bump up your cals till you know your gaining, an screw the rest of the dudes on here that give you **** as your a newbie there just self obsessed an even tho there big a girl doesnt want a meathead

depends on what u want to do if i was u i would do 2 body parts maybe upper and a lower. Because if u do to many body parts 1 that will be a long workout and 2 1 body part will take away from the other. A lot of people don't do this but chest and back is great because most of the chest exercises is push and back is pull. so when u doing one the other is resting. I hope this helped u out. Do you take any preworkout for energy?

And this is one thing you should learn from the beginning; all this bs like for example that one in the comment you just wrote should be avoided. Once you start following random advice you read from somewhere your training is gonna go downhill. I know this from experience.

Would a car be able to run if it was on an empty tank, think about that. Your body uses more nutrients while your weight lifitng, why on the hell would you eat on an empty stomach. I mean sure don't consume a lot of fats, but at least 30-50 complex carbs(whole wheat bread, oatmeal, ect.), and some whey for the aminos+protein. Simple carbs and whey to follow, and then 1 1/2-2 hours later a meal!
I strive to be like myself because I know that I can always improve. If I sculpt my goals towards another persons, I will eventually reach it. No matter how far I advance, I will strive to be better than the previous day.
