Maryland's handgun permit law unconstitutional, judge rules
The Associated Press
12:23 p.m. EST, March 5, 2012
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bre...,6504189.story
In an opinion filed Monday, U.S. District Judge Benson Everett Legg says a requirement that residents show a "good and substantial reason" to carry a handgun infringes their Second Amendment right to bear arms. He says it isn't sufficiently tailored to the state's public safety interests.
Plaintiff Raymond Woollard was denied a renewal of his permit in 2009 because he could not show he had been subject to "threats occurring beyond his residence." Woollard obtained the permit after fighting with an intruder in his Hampstead home in 2002.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed
Judge rules- Maryland's handgun permit law unconstitutional
Sounds like the judge ruled logically to me!!

i didnt read anything in your post other than just skimming it, a judge near me ruled that a collapsable stock + flash hider makes a gun more scarier so we're not allowed to have those...so i might be biased against a judge or two

but you felt compelled to answer it with a complete generalization anyway, ie: some if not many judges make poor if not even completely unconstitutional decisions ... therefore according to you they all do

I'm from Maryland.
I support and practice the right to bear arms.
BUT, why do we believe that any untrained idiot should be able to carry? They have the right to carry on their own property where the threat of incompetence is minimized to the public.... FACTUALLY (not ethically), that's what this case is about anyways, isn't it? He had the right to defend himself on his property before and nothing has changed.
Why should "we" be allowed to carry in public?
Please, convince me. I would love for it to be "okay" but, there are just too many stupid people, imo.

that's a slippery slope argument when it comes to CCW. people are generally better than that ... and they would have to be trained to get a carry permit. Crime falls when the good guys are armed in public. Any good cop(s) will agree with this and support the movement for armed citizens

Yes, of course they are. Generally speaking, the ones who apply are some of the "most qualified"/law abiding carriers. The problem is that when the one bad apple acts out the movement get's squashed for a long time because the public can't believe that we let them carry. I haven't seen a good enough system for screening to avoid that and that's why I believe that we will continually take one step forward and two back.
I guess I've just given up this fight, perhaps...???

Why should we be neutered in our ability to protect ourselves in public against thugs who want to harm us as law abiding citizens?

when seconds count police are minutes away.
why shouldnt law abiding citizens be allowed to legally defend themselfs? for most states to get your carry permit you typically need to take a course so there not all completely uneducated. even if you make laws restricting citizens from carrying criminals play with no rules so theyl carry either way

Im inclined to believe you are less than knowledgeable about the standards for most police. Some are only required to qualify with their weapon 2-3 times a year. My best friend went to academy and is now an Arizona prison guard. There was a female in his class who literally could not wield a shotgun and missed close targets as a result, with a shotgun....... Ive also seen a cop from a neighboring town that literally weighed 300+ pounds, and obviously was beyond unfit for duty. Her anus was so large it was without question she has to get a custom uniform and insomniac could probably have fit inside the ass portion if a normal sized individual put the pants on. There is a strong misconception that police are some sort of above average human with exceptional training. Not the case
A citizen who went through the hassle of legally buying a gun and legally obtaining a permit executes much more caution than a cop will who takes his gun for granted with his job. Ive seen enough accidental discharges by cops to not hold them to a higher standard. Yes some cops do take private training sessions for tactical work, but so do civilians....

Turbo speaks the truth, they're highly trained in paperwork and the politics of the job. Guns not so much.

unfortunately this logic is tainted by the leftist agenda which ultimately wishes we were not only disarmed in public but even in our homes.
When CCW rights started being discussed the leftys were screaming in fear that our streets would become the wild west again and we were going to have showdowns at high noon. Obviously this didn't happen. The leftys can still impose the fear (through lies and non facts) upon people to try and dissuade but the hard reality they simply can no longer deny is that when ccw was implemented crime rates fell. And almost immediately.
This can only be attributed to the new fear the criminals had that citizens (might) be carrying. Reason it's the only explanation is we didn't have the (once again lefty prediction) that people with their "permits" were now going to be ventilating people all over town. It simply didn't happen and yet crime fell.
As mentioned before CCW holders in general are very responsible and they understand it's technically a privilege - although very arguably a right we have conceded as a nation that for now it's a privilege. They also understand it's a tremendous responsibility and it will become a life changing event in numerous aspects if it ever needs to be drawn or used.
As said before the good cops (most are) will support CCW. It not only deters crime but makes their job a lot easier. And cops don't fear the lawfully armed

I think it would also be appropriate to note that the wild west portrayed in films is not in fact how the west was. People werent going around shooting each other all day and sleeping with the girls at brothels every night
Point in case is anti gun groups have no reason to their logic, so they should pls go
