Final Fantasy 4 with Cecil and company is the best one.

The thing with Final Fantasy 6... what made that the game great, aside from the art and music, what pushed it over the edge... was Ted Woosley's translation of an otherwise dry text.

To paraphrase a review of Sky Render's more faithful retranslation: "Woosley did something I thought only god was supposed to be able to do. He gave the game a soul."

First off I've played through all of them, even the online ones and yes, even mystic quest.

VI was my favorite, but most likely due to nostalgia, it was the 2nd FF game I played (IV was first). the characters/world/music, everything drew me into the world, and seriously the villain Kefka was crazy (literally) - the only villain I can think of that actually succeeded in destroying and conquering the world in an FF game.

since then I haven't had that same feeling with the games, although i'd say ff7 was the last really good one.

Don't know when it became trendy to hate on FF7 but the fact of the matter is, its a masterpiece. And you are definitely in the weird minority if you hate on it or find it overrated

I think the first one that a person played is usually their favorite (any of them from 7 and up for most US gamers)

7 was my first RPG I ever played and I still remember how epic it was and it is still my favorite. 8 sucked at first but halfway through it gets better. A lot of people didn't like 9 for some reason but I thought it was close behind 7. I never really liked 10 that much and never understood a lot of people loved that game.

Out of what I've played (7, 8, 10, 13) I'm going to have to go with 7, incredible game. Lives up to its hype.
