How many times a week to hit the gym? :)

I've been working out for about a month now but as a student short on cash I can't really afford a gym membership at the moment. I was wondering weather hitting the gym say twice a week was sufficient for building muscle, or is it quite simply not enough. I'm in shape at the moment just little visual muscle and 19 years old. Also I'm aware that I can build muscle without the aid of supplements such as creatine, and whey protein, but can I gain amounts of muscle in which people would actually be like "damn he's big!"?

    Thanks

    Once a week: weak results.

Twice a week: much better results.

Three times a week: better results than twice a week, but not nearly as much difference as twice has over once a week.

Four or more times a week: not really more beneficial than going 3 times.

Three times a week, full-body. Work hard.

Lately I've been going twice a day, 5 days a week. Rest on weekends. Seen some pretty decent results. I believe that going below three isn't enough

The more days the better. As long as you get sufficient rest. I go 5 days on, 1-2 days off. The more regular you are the better you can split up your routine and make sure you get the most out of each muscle group.

You don't NEED supplements such as creatine and whey. Creatine just gives you that extra push and whey is a more convenient way consume protein. In my opinion you should work out at least 3 times a week. I know many people who try to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. That's impossible, because the former involves a calorie deficit (this is called cutting) and the latter involves eating like crazy (this is called bulking). You can't do the two at once. If you try to do that you're wasting time and money. Its like subtracting from 0 and expecting to get a positive. Just letting you know in case you make that misconception.

So to answer your last question, yes you can. But you're better off waiting until you've done your research, prepared a proper diet (I'd start with bulking), and found a good routine before you run off to the gym and work out not knowing what you're doing.

Creatine is really cheap btw, I get mine for $17 and that's for 100 servings (5g each).

Yes you can gain results with an increased protein intake (supplement is your best bet) combined with creatine. Buy a simple stack and tough it out 3 times a week for a month or 2 and then try your best to buy a membership/find time for more sessions.

In my opinion. Supplements and powder protein are a waste of $$$. Just eat, workout, sleep sand eat some more. That's all you need.

edit: if you feel the need for energy, just buy an energy drink. The only ssupplement that ever. Helped me was Amino Energy. Paid 20$ for two months worth

Yeah because low intensity, eating more, and working out less is actually more beneficial

Where did I say any of that? All I said was that they are dumbasses who don't understand the concept of diminishing returns. Do you really think working out 6x a week, 3 hours a day is MORE beneficial than lifting 4x a week, an hour a day?

No, it's ****ing stupid and you will make 0 progress.

That's a stupid assumption based on how intense the work out is/their goals and calorie/glycogen level

Oh GOON SQUAD no wonder squating 3x a week full body work outs working out for 30 minutes

So you DON'T think diminishing returns exists in weightlifting? You are going all out full retard bro. You are putting me on the end of a spectrum that I never implied I was near. There is a point where more =/= better, and that's a pretty concrete fact.

OP I go 5 times a week for a split and two days rest. Sunday is always one of my rest days and the other is normally mid week like Wednesday.

Atleast 1-3 times a week if you're just starting, then increase it and split up your routine.
