    5000 calories too much?

I'm currently taking 5000 calories a day, largely made up of 2x 1250 shakes. I could cut this down to 3800 or so if i cut each shake to 625 instead. Is 5000 too much for my bulking or should i keep on it? I'm currently doing a "clean" bulk, with 80g of oats a day plus lots of chicken and the shakes.

I'm 5ft 8 and 150lbs. I just started re-training about 6 weeks ago, and want to bulk up for 8-10 weeks before cutting before summer.

Any comments would be much appreciated, thanks.

What are those shakes? Do you get carbs from them? Because if all your carbohydrates come from the oats, you are eating waaay too little.
Also every person burns different amount of calories.

The shakes are the Serious Mass ones. 1250 cals, 250 carbs and 50g protein per shake. So 2500 cals before I even add oats + lunch + dinner...
Oats are about 600 cals, so I can predict my lunch/dinner are going to be 600ish each. So I'm eating at least 4300-4800 a day at the moment.

Wouldn't this just give you a huge stomach.

Sounds way too much and unhealthy. But my question is how can you even stomach that much? Do you feel bloated at all ?

On another note. Hi everyone im new to all this. As you can see this is my first post.

see how you do with 5000 calories in one week. if you gain more than 1 pound go down by 200-300 and keep it there for a week. if you are gaining around ~1 pound a week which is optimum, keep your calorie the way it is

Thanks man, worked out that I need 3000 maintenance, so I guess 4800-5000 is going a bit too over the top, especially im not "jacked" haha. I'm not fat but not skinny either, at least I know now that I don't need to be eating as much as I am

That's what I don't understand. I'm seeing no gains whatsoever. I was exactly 147lbs when i re-joined the gym, and 4 weeks later after eating as much as I physically can, my lifts have doubled, yet no weight gain at all. I'm seeing phyical changes quite a lot which are good, so I suppose this could be due to the fact i did alot of heavy intenstity cardio 4-5 times a week aswell as weight training for the first 4 weeks.

If you dont see an increase in weight at 3500kcal/daily, increase the calories until you do.

Everyone's different. The thread is just a rough guideline. Read sig.

At your weight 5000 calories seems like a huge excess of calories. Unless your metabolism is ferrari fast you will likely end up with a few more lbs of fat than you'd like. A few may be an understatement.

no need to eat "clean" and no reason to not consume as many calories as possible. youll get fat but you also gain muscle and strength faster than other by eating that much over maintenance.
