There's also links to other 8 ft+ people and they had trouble walking around as well. 6-7 ft might not be bad for humans, but it might be a little much when someone is 8 ft +.

Nutrition certainly played a role, but their was no significant changes in nutrition until the late 19th and early 20th century.

Examination of skeletal remains in Scandinavia place male vikings at an average height of around 5'7" (depending on the study). They were considered monsters, because Englishmen were so tiny in comparison.

As far as your edit. Do you even know what an average is? If we took all men between 5'3" and 6'8", that would likely include 99% of the male population in the world.
