Barbell Bench Press vs Dumbbell Bench Press question...

If you can do lets say, 8 reps with 80 pound dumbbells in each hand (140 total) on dumbbell bench press, how much would the weight of the bar on regular bench affect the amount of weight you could do?
    Thanks

Well if you where doing *160* x 8 on db bench its going to be around 205-225, it hard to give a straight answer because it depends on you form, For example if your doing db bench all the way down you'd be about 225. Also Bench press using a bar also put some weight on your shoulders so it depends on how large your shoulders are. Your form on bench matters too, are you arching your back or flat on the bench? Arching back will increase your weight, as far as I know you don't arch for db bench

In summary, its hard to say I find my barbell bench go down when I stop doing bar and do DB. Try it with a bar only way to actually find out

For almost anyone who trains their barbell bench and dumbbell bench equally, their barbell bench is stronger than their dumbbell bench. For most people I know, their dumbbell bench weight (total) is around 80-90% of their barbell bench weight. So if their dumbbell bench is 160 total weight for 8 reps, they can usually do around 180-200 lbs for 8 reps for barbell bench.

For a person who only does barbell bench, their dumbbell bench total weight might actually be significantly lower due to the fact dumbbell bench requires more stabilizer muscles that don't get trained in barbell bench. But usually after like 3-4 weeks of working their weight up, they can hit that 80% mark.

For me personally, I have a barbell bench of 200 for 5, and I can incline dumbbell press 85 for 5. I don't do flat dumbbell press, but usually people's flat dumbbell press is 10 total lbs higher than their incline dumbbell press, so I would say that I could probably do 90s for 5 reps, which would put my total weight at 180, which is 90% of my barbell bench weight.

seriously why ask this when you can just see how much weight you use with a barbell to get 8 reps

btw........... just curious.... if bill ran 36 km in 4 hours, how many km an hr was bill going ??

    is it a) 13 km/hr
    b) 9 km/hr
    c) 6 km/hr
    or d) 8 km/hr

besides the bad math and broken English, I have a very hard time imagining this 15 year old that weighs 122 pounds hoisting up 80 pound DBs to do anything....
Lift as MUCH as you can, for as MANY reps as you can,
while in complete control of the exercise.
