yeah, i know. the differences in prices of houses/apartments are crazy, depending on location. i've seen a few threads like "post a house that X dollars gets you where you live" and it's really astonishing. but i wasn't exactly talking about buying a house for 100k, but rather about being able to afford getting a mortgage.
still, i'm amazed that you can actually get a house for 100k anywhere in the states. 100k PLN (our currency) in poland won't even get you a one bedroom apartment, unless it's in a god forsaken village. and for 100k dollars you could get a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment. or a piece of land next to the city, to build a house on.

Let's do some simple math here
According to the article, that factory's top worker is making 29 dollars an hour.
29 dollars per hour x 52 weeks in a year x typical 40 hour workweek = about 60k pre tax, meaning you're realistically making 40k a year TOPS after taxes.
The only way you're breaking $100,000 a year according to the article in the OP is if you are doing upwards of 65-70 hours a week, assuming a generous overtime bonus.
Yeah I wonder why everyone isn't jumping at that.....

you cant buy a house for 100k practically anywhere in the us. hes just referring to 100k being enough to afford the mortgage, gas, utilities, hot water, property taxes, food, car payment, insurance, blah blah blah.
in the nyc area. 100k x 2 people = respectable maybe 2000 sq ft. house in a far out suburb with a long commute or a condo.“Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength.”

Yah, but you have to realize that the factory labor jobs aren't the ceiling. If your smart and learn the ropes in a big company you can easily surpass the other workers around you and get into a management position.
I work in a lot of factories an talk to the workers. Most are dumb as hell. But the smart ones eventually get management jobs that can reach 80-100k. Some people even surpass that in my area to maybe 150k but its rare.
If you are in school part time and take some business management and engineering classes you could eventually be supervising a huge operation and making 200k a year
I think the point of the article is that if your smart you will excel in any field...trendy or not.

yup.. i did home loans for a bit and some houses around here were even going for 80-100k during the boom.. of course they were **** holes, but in NYC everything is inflated... my roommate makes 15k a month there and then flies back here to live for cheap when not working
