Yeah, you lost a bit, anatomically. But it's probably not noticeable to the eye in any manner, unless your diet during these eight days was absolutely ****.

Supercompensation takes over 8 days to fully occur, you didn't lose anything.

If anything it's not gonna matter. Don't forget about muscle memory. Once you get back in there, you'll be back to your regular self. Also, maybe that week off helped. You're possibly gonna be stronger

It could be so, but I think there is a reason most would say that the general time to wait before working out a muscle again is 48 hours.

We all do. Whenever I miss a workout (like today), or performed horribly in comparison with what I regularly do, I always think that I am going to get weaker now for not doing what I have been, for the last months. It's the mind that's ****ing with us, but I think in reality nothing has changed a bit as far as appearance goes.

That has nothing to do with supercompensation time. Think of it like tanning. You don't tan for a day, then wait until you are completely white to tan again. No one waits for supercompensation fo fully occur before training again.

    http://www.johnberardi.com/articles/...ghtlifting.htm
During conventional weight lifting, muscle force production (strength) is diminished for at least 1 to 3 days after the damage has occurred. This loss of strength, which may take 7-14 days to recover, is most likely due to several factors including the disruption of muscle calcium balance and energy production, the poor recovery of muscle energy during this period, and the decrease in muscle protein content. In addition, this loss of strength can cause you to feel like a 90-lb weakling for several days after exercise.

I thought supercompensation was the same as "positive recovery" from the workout?

Supercompensation is when you have recovered fully enough to perform better than you did on your prior session. I have no idea what "positive recovery" is.

    spiderman997,

I think that prolonged loss of strength simply is a result of bad recovery from a nutritional perspective.

    I doubt it takes 7 - 14 days.

By "positive recovery", I mean when the body has repaired the muscle cells to the point they were prior to working out, and are now beginning to make it stronger and bigger as a result of the tension put on it in the gym.

It takes 7-14 days. Doesn't really matter if you 'doubt it' or not, it's fact.

    No, no.

Does that mean that if you don't rest for one to two week, before working out the same muscle again, you will not be able to add weights to the bar?

Your claim: "Supercompensation is when you have recovered fully enough to perform better than you did on your prior session."

If supercompensation happens after 7-14 days, that must be the case, right?
