Wow, how could I miss this thread...
Look @ my sig., OP. I have been doing no-poo since August/Sept. and I have noticed an insane difference in the quality of my hair. I will NEVER go back to using shampoo. Everyone on here tries to tell me I have poor hygiene because of it but I just lol @ them for being uneducated. I use baking soda and ACV.

Nice one. This is what it boils down to, finding your optimal shampoo frequency and what I have said in many of my posts. Ease into the no poo by introducing no-poo days slowly, eventually you'll hit the optimal frequency via trial and error.
Otherwise, ****e will hit the fan and then you'll have the greasiest of scalps and what some of the guys here are reporting because they went from shampooing daily to 0 shampoo forever.
It's like weight training, you have a template, then you tweak it around according to your individuality.

Nice one brah. No shampoo is one of those things that works awesome yet you should not be very vocal about it. I documented it on my site (30 days, no shampoo nor any hair products) because I wanted to prove to people that it can be done. Other than that, I don't go around telling people about it unless they ask me. I don't blame people for not being aware though, each to their own.
Glad it worked for you, feel free to browse the rest of my site, there are other hair gems there (whether you have curly or straight hair). Thanks for the ******** like BTW, we are growing big and we thank you all for your support!

That's pretty much my shampoo frequency too, once a week.
FTR, I have published today fresh out of the oven an article on this topic. Worth the read for awareness:
http://www.manlycurls.com/2012/05/no...shampoo-guide/
Quick edit to just say that my above article is a bit lengthy (just like my OP first post) but it contains pretty much all my advice I have given in this thread but in a more enjoyable read. I hope that at least this will spark your curiosity in cutting down shampoo as it will truly benefit your hair when done right.Last edited by ManWithCurls; 05-02-2012 at 02:38 PM. Reason: Quick edit

op,
what's your opinion of tea tree oil based shampoo? it is organic and all natural ingredients and i shampoo about 3 times a month.
I also use a light mineral/coconut oil based pommade/wax daily.
I've found a tremendous difference by shampooing less in terms of less itchy/flaky scalp and hair has a nice sheen to it.

i use a shampoo with zinc pyrithione as active ingredient, head and shoulders or generic brands, doesn't matter, cheap and it works. i use atleast 2-3 times a week, if not the dandruff starts to appear, and if i go a week or longer without it, thats when the dermatitis episode begins

Tea tree oil is a pretty diesel ingredient. It is an antifungal which means it can aid in taming dandruff and I have seen some balding dudes reporting hair loss benefits from it in hair loss forums. Overall, I give it my approval as an ingredient.
Just monitor the pommade/wax. These two styling products are great but they are heavy on the residue scale which means that you will have to adapt your shampooing to your use (e.g shampoo a bit more if you use it daily than if you didn't use wax/pommade).
Glad 3x month is working for you, I have tried this frequency and it worked too but now that my hair is so long, I do have to throw in a bit of a higher shampoo frequency, if anything because at this length my hair is prone to rubbing against all sort of surfaces.
As I have said somewhere in the thread, no poo is not for everyone. Those who spend a good chunk of their day in highly polluted environments are best shampooing daily.
Thanks. I was expecting you would mention a shampoo with zinc pyrithione. It is the main active ingredient in most anti-dandruff shampoos.

I'm not reading all that but just came to post that I've significantly reduced the amount of shampooing I do. I shower at least once a day but shampoo maybe once a week at the most. I think my hair is better without it.
I was wondering though if shampooing your hair is better for reducing hair loss?
Oh also, toothpaste is stupid as well. The most important thing is scrubbing your teeth, not using some "extra white ultra" tooth paste. Mouth wash + brushing and flossing is much more important.Activate Xtreme/Sizeon Log:

Not trying to scare you away, but Brazilian blowouts expose you to formaldehyde:

Just tell whoever is doing it to keep the area well-ventilated and to be conservative with the application of the product. Don't be afraid to ask the stylist if the product can release formaldehyde into the air, most good products have a label mentioning it too.

Your first two lines is what the thread can be summarized into.
Your hair loss question, cannot make a solid claim on that. Sulfate-based shampoo (conventional shampoo) is a detergent and it can irritate the scalp when used daily. Whether that can contribute to hair loss, not sure.
About toothpaste, baking soda for teh winz (again).

I've been trying this since Thursday, after reading this thread.
I'm amazed at how much healthier my hair looks, it really has improved it. It looks thicker, fuller, easier to manage, and has a nice shine to it (not greasy).
I'm still washing it every day in the shower, but only with water. To make sure it keeps clean im going to try using conditioner on it once per week.Mod negged for "whos the blackest man in the world" thread.

Good stuff, just don't eat the stuff as much as the coconut smell might incite you to.
If you have short hair, you can totally skip shampoos. Shampoos are great for removing crap out of hair though.
Yes, do the water cleaning of your hair on non-shampoo days. Do my Sebum Coating method as I explain on my site on non-shampoo days and you are golden.
Conditioner will work as a "mild shampoo", feel free to use more than once a week, especially if you have curly hair (wavy, coils, kinks).

Yes, about half of the shampoo you use is fine. However, don't worry as much about how much shampoo you use on your shampoo days, worry more about how frequently you use it, that is, the on/off that I talk about.
Glad that you are aiming to find your optimal on/off frequency but don't rush into it, give it 2 weeks per extra off day as sebum can suddenly appear over accumulated if you don't ease into it.
