Post Quinoa (Keenwa) V.S. Brown Rice

Is Quinoa a good replacement for Brown Rice? I have started my comeback for 2012 and in my diet for a complex carb I have replaced Brown Rice with Quinoa which is about equal to 1/2 cup rice. However it is a super food, and only about a 1/4 cup in comparison. What I really want to know is has anyone ever taken this route. I want to get leaner then I have ever been thought maybe this would help.

As far as how much its going to help you get leaner......it wont. Quinoa is a bit more calorie dense so ounce per ounce its going to give you more energy. But if you are keeping track of calorie intake and adjust portion sizes you can get the same result from either. There isnt anything magical about quinoa or rice or doritos for that matter. I would suggest a broad range of food sources for good diversity in your micro nutrition.

I am in cutting mode too, so I choose carbs that are low glycemic but have more volume to better fill me up, like sweet potato or brown rice and black beans. Quinoa will be great when I am in growing mode again and want to get in a big carb pre or post workout meal!

I agree, I only use the Quinoa for meals 2 and 3 which are at 9:30 and 12:00, then I hit the gym at around 4:30. What I have noticed is the closer I get to show time I will have to revert back to rice and sweet potato becausea 1/4 of Quinoa at 170 cals is not worth it. Leaves me super hungry following my workout. Thanks for the input.

There isn't in regards to getting leaner, it's all what you prefer. Insert white rice, oats, cheerios, pasta, bread, fruits, etc... As oak said, get a wide variety of carb sources.

Quinoa is much better than brown rice it has more nutrients and amino acids... If your trying to get ripped you can eat anything as long as your in a deficit. But why settle for inferior foods when you can eat super foods. Quinoa is a super food brown rice is not. the choice is yours.

ezekiel bread hands down...easiest to prepare. easiest to divide up (already divided up) and NO food allergies or gluten to deal with, no bloating etc...used it the last 3 seasons and will NEVER change, always use the low sodium plain and mrs dash seasoning i am in the mood for with my orange roughy or talapia..

Brown rice, Quinoa, Ezekiel.....all great choices. But...so are white rice, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, oats, waxi maize, rice cakes, pancakes, waffles, beans, etc...and even some desserts, ice cream, cookies, cakes on a refeed/cheat. No single carb source is magical....once ingested they are all converted and either used to fill the liver and muscles or burned for energy. Think in terms of the amount you need for the day and hit that number.....for a hard training bodybuilder the source is not a major issue.
