- Benching 225 for reps is the dumbest combine test of all and has next to no translation to the field. Playing offensive line is about footwork and leg drive.
But if there's ever a situation where I need my center to lay flat on his back and rep out with the opposing team's safety, I'll take David Molk in a heartbeat.
- Michael Brockers is enormous. Measured in at 6-7, 322. More athletic version of John Henderson?

I also weigh half as much and have been lifting for 2 years.
I know the 225 bench press doesn't say much about a player's ability on the field, but you would think some of these guys would take some damn pride trying to make themselves as strong and as athletic as they possibly can.355 Bench

this is actually what they are talking about a lot during the OL events. The scores don't really matter but their technique shows how much they have prepared for the event and scouts use that to judge them. Like some guard just ran the 40 but didn't run a straight line and had poor form, whereas some other guys ran with perfect form and may have had a slower time, but they obviously put all the hours in to bring their best to the combine

I agree with you there. It's probably the easiest of the tests to prepare for/improve on. It does make a statement when these guys show up and blow it.
Ha, yeah. Check it out: http://walterfootball.com/combine2012DL.php . I like him a lot as a 3-4 DE/4-3 DT hybrid.
Walter Football updates these results very frequently. It's almost live.

As a very avid OSU fan, this is the first I have heard of Mike Adams being rumored as lazy.
Mike Adams is going to be an outstanding pro. He was soft as a freshman, but then dominated the more he played. Scouts will check out the film of him killing some very good defensive ends as a junior and will judge him off of that.
I really hope the Browns take him with their second pick in the first round and stick him at right tackle. Although wide receiver may be a better option as well.
This is just my opinion, and it is not because I am an OSU fan. Chris Wells is lazy and soft as charmin. Ginn is soft too, theres no reason he shouldnt be an elite wide receiver. But Adams is a beast and will be an elite tackle.Just Starting Out/Currently On:

I think he's like 30 pounds heavier than VD, but still comes off as surprisingly athletic. I'm curious as well.
BRB bombing the most important job interview of my life to potentially land outside of the draft and broke. Any scout and prospect not taking the combine seriously needs to be out of a job. Gotta be trolling.

I'm not talking about guys that need to perform well. I'm talking about projected 1st rounders. If Andrew Luck overthrew receivers at the combine do you think scouts would look at him differently or do you think his stock would go down?
Even though I think the Bench Press is fuking stupid, I don't understand how an offensive lineman fails at 18 reps.

They're actually about the same size. Vernon is 6-3, 250. Charles measured in at 6-2, 251.
LOL, yeah. Nobody is going to tank the combine. There's a slotting system. Typically, the lower you're picked, the less money you make.
True, but reps of 225 tests strength endurance, not limit strength. Bench and squat maxes would be more valid tests, granted there are practical reasons they don't do that.

I like to think a lot of these guys have pride in their skills and want to be the best at everything they attempt relating to their sport. Who wouldn't want to be taken #1 overall? To go against that undermines all the work you have ever put in to your craft.
My bad, I must have been looking at a different tight end last night. Vernon doesn't look 250 to me, maybe it's the speed that is deceiving. What a fcking beast.

Speaking of the Bench, Some guy tore his pec doing the Bench for reps and is now done at the combine. Again every year someone get injured and tbh, I don't think a lot of strength coaches that prep these guys know how to teach proper bench form. Some guys have a narrow grips, some have a normal grip, some go too wide, some can't control the bar, benching uneven.
Any time you get up to as many reps as they are doing you are sacrificing form and setting yourself up for injury.
