    Amount of Protein Intake

Hello, I m new to bodybuilding. I want to know how much protein I should take. I weigh 147LB / 67 KG.
I have been working out for 2 months. I need muscle gain. I have ectomorph body. I m also having 2 eggs and a glass of milk with raisins daily for natural source of protein. When should I take the protein supplement.
I bought whey protein from GNC.

I've always stuck with at least 1 gram per pound of body weight is about the norm. I try for at least that.

You should take it as equally throughout the day as possible. If you're 147lbs, try eating 5 meals a day and consume 30 grams of protein with each meal (or something like that)

    Solid advice.

I personally aim (but don't always achieve) about 1.25g of protein per lb of body weight. That way my body will get what it needs to repair and grow.

Eat for what you want to weigh - 147 grams of protein is a floor minimum, but I'd recommend about 175 if you're trying to bulk, in addition to a solid amount of carbohydrates.

I would stick to 1 - 1.5g per pound of body weight. This should be spread out over the course of the day,.

If you want to learn more about protein intake and types of protein try Google searching the following for free information from a credible source:

"International Society of Sports Nutrition position stand: protein and exercise"

You'll get some good insight into protein with regards to timing, protein quality, etc.

    Hope that helps!

1 gram of protein is a good starting point, but think you would benefit more going to 1.5 g of protein per bodyweight.

Jollywood is right, eat as much as you can to spread it throughout the day, a rule of thumb is not to go over 40g of protein in one sitting (as that is all your body can utilize at once), and why protein before/after workouts, casein the rest of the day.

notsureifsrs. What happens if I eat an entire chicken in one sitting? I can only use 40g of the 100g+ of protein?
