    Deadlift question

This may be a dumb question but is the deadlift a push, pull, or both?
Part of the body is pushing (legs) and the other is pulling (back). So which is it classified as?

pull...push/pull is usually determined by whether the weight is being moved towards or away from your center of gravity...

    pretty much this.

    the deadlift is a pull.
although the squat is technically stationary on your body, it's still considered a push

Push/pull classification doesn't really define any such movement by its own standards.

The target muscles are all straightening out, so I would put it on the push side. The weight is at your feet, and you are averting the weight from your feet.

edit: Your arms are pulling the weight, but it isn't an 'arms' exercise.

Push/pull doesn't have anything to do with you center of gravity. It's the way the muscle contracts. By your definition a curl would be a push and it def isn't.

by ur definition, a ham dominant squat is a pull and a hack squat is a push...

as for curls, they're workin within an isolated system, so u'd have to use the center of gravity of that system...

    I would say it's a pulling movement.

However, a muscle can only pull, it cannot push. Strictly speaking in biological terms.

deadlifts are definitely a pull exercise in my opinion because the main bodyparts used are back and hamstrings which are pulling muscles.
