quit current job and help out with family business?

I have been teaching for 3 years in a primary school. In this school, I have a few issues with it. I have been unable to apply to work in any school which is near to home, so I could help out with family business and get away from the toxic situation. After the latest bout of challenge, I feel like quitting and further another degree to help out with family business. One of the main reason is I am almost 30 years old and I have been stagnant for a few years in terms of academically. If I quit, I will basically be jobless or lower-paying job with debts and government penalising me for breaking the contract, which is to service for 5 years. Do you think it is viable for me to quit?

How stressing will the debt and 'penalization' be? 5 years? Sort of like Social Service in a school/community where the government places you as part of your education and its' financing? What are your 'issues' with teaching? It can certainly be a hair raising challenge to be sure! I didn't quite understand, was the 'toxic situation' regarding family and business or school? Sorry if my reading skills are muddled at the moment, I just woke up from a nap and am still a bit dead-headed.

Total monthly repayment would be around $1400, combination of insurance and loans. Penalization will require me to pay 50% of the amount upfront and rest of it in installments. The 5 years is in exchange for free tertiary education.

It's more of the school. Nothing hair raising, just a few senior teachers keep 'forgetting' to do their part. Yet, one of them is able to run a pub as his side business. And I am being given the responsibility to oversee it.

That's a pretty steep penalty in my estimation. You've got three years under belt right? I might just try to tough it out. You're halfway through the fourth year now I'm presuming. Depending upon the circumstances with your family obviously, I wouldn't want to face 1400 bucks a month in payments before I could put a nickle in my pocket. Best of luck in whatever decision you make!

By the way, what does your mate's pub and your responsibility to oversee his licquor sales have anything to do with your job as a teacher? I certainly trust that you're getting more than free booze out of it! Although there are certain benefits to that as well! Ha!
