Reasons why "~Green~" is illegal?

Is the real reason just because the lumber industry and the drug companies that stand to lose much profit if it were legalized?

Few reasons:

-Has anybody ever put forward a really convincing case for legalising it? Maybe, not that I've read. I'm not against legalising it but I haven't seen anything incredibly convincing either.
-It's seen as being addictive and ruining peoples lives (although...same as alcohol?).
-It's been illegal for a long time...when it comes to government policy on these kind of things, they are very unlikely to change a law that has been standing for a long time, the long it's been in place, the more drama it causes by being removed.
-It's always lumped into the same discussion that people have about harder drugs like heroin, this gives it a bad name and lumps it in the same category as harder drugs (in the mind of the masses anyway, and they = voters)
-It's seen as a front door into using harder drugs...ie you start on it before moving onto something harder.



It basically comes down to public perception, if it was legalised a large majority of people would be up in arms screaming that the 'world is coming to an an end and it won't be long before class A drugs are legalised' etc etc.
