You could eat like that but the problem is most contest prep diets get really low in fats or carbs. You could go eat foods like ice cream/bigmacs because they do fit into your macros but what is going to keep you full? eating a small bowl if ice cream or some rice or bread that has more volume to it.

Victor Martinez talked last year about how he was flying somewhere, couldn't get to any low sodium food, so he had to eat subway.

Apparently they pump lots of weird things into meat now.

Exactly. Think about it. even bodybuilders who suffer and eat chicken and rice every meal have some cheat meals to spike growth, keep body guessing blah blah reasons. Its just those extra calories and they still continue getting ic competition shape. it won't hurt them having meals like that as long as they do it in moderation.

Actually one can have more processed foods daily and still get to contest shape (that's what Dorian used to do). If your calories are less than your daily total, you'll lose fat. Is that simple but unfortunely people are too ignorant to aknowledge this which is fact and science.
My coach gets leaner than most of the pro bodybuilders if not pretty much all of them and he eats pizza, ice cream, etc, daily!

you actually would use it whether you wanted to or not. You would pick foods that meet your caloric needs. Obviously you want to hit certain macros as well which is why you'll pick out which foods you think will help you achieve those macros. That's exactly what IIFYM is. I would say that most Pro's stay away from processed foods during prep or at least when they start to get really close to a show because they're typically higher in sodium content and aren't satisfying or filling at all. However, you can certainly eat whatever you want and get shredded. This has been proven time and time again in the contest prep section.

Here's a few picss from a guy who regularly preps while eating processed foods, ice cream, etc. \

i think IIFYM is really advantageous in the offseason. when you're eating 500+ carbs every day, and you have adequate intake of fiber and micronutrients, then why not have something that tastes good and won't fill you up like crazy?

and I think it's fine to use during prep, but it will obviously get less interesting as the carbs and fats start to take a big hit. when your macros get seriously low, you still need to get enough fiber and micronutrients, so your diet starts to become a bit more "conventional" looking. Plus you'll probably favor foods that fill you up and prevent a hyperinsulinemic response (mainly for hunger reasons), so you'll tend to move toward more fibrous carb sources

Don't start your prep looking like a blob and you can cruise into contest condition on 400+g of carbs.

This is 100% true. It helps knowing that eating a bowl of ice cream or having that candy bar will not hurt your progress one bit as long as you're meeting your needs. For mental purposes IIFYM can be very beneficial.

i hate it how all these natty pros take pics of what they eat on their high carb days and give off the impression that all they eat is pop tarts, pizza, ice cream, etc all day every day..... like i understand the mechanism behind it, but i hate watching other people believe that they really eat like that consistently when their diets are extremely strict

your asking a couple different questions and getting things mixed up. One of your questions sounds like you are asking about the sh*t loading you see guys doing before/day of the show. When they stuff down burgers, fries, snickers, etc. Yes some guys do that the day before or day of the show. You'll see guys eating cupcakes, candy, etc, etc. before they go on stage to dry and bring out the veins and to give them one more "pop" before they go on stage. That load of carbs CAN work to some degree but I prefer to stick to very salty but predictable meals. Steak and sweet potatoe etc. Many bodybuilders don't give two sh*ts about macros the day of the show. I did once eat 2 dozen doughnuts between the morning and night show.

People do crazy stuff day of the show which is totally different from what is done during the entire prep. We ALL...that is right ALL follow IIFYM when dieting. All IIFYM is is picking your macros and hitting them. Some numbnuts d-bag just put those cut little letters together and made it sound like a cook, catchy new thing...but it's not...it's how people have dieted for years and years...even if you don't want to follow IIFYM...you have to...because again...it is just hitting your macros. I guys the only way to not follow it would be to purposely not hit your macros, but uh......that wouldn't make sense.
