You heard that right. This whole year I have been getting stupid sick and dealing with joint issues is all for a reason. I have some sort of autoimmune illness, but they are not sure what yet. I have an appointment with a Rheum, but not for a while, so I am in limbo for now.
These past six weeks or so of not journaling or lifting and dealing with my stoopid misbehaving body gave me time to think. Do I really want to continue with powerlifting? How could I get a 1000 total while being old and dealing with inflamed joints? Is it worth it? How the fukk am I gonna do that when some days my joints are so painful that I am having a hard time walking? Can i even do this??
I think yes. It's fukkin worth it to try. I *want* that total. I *want* to be in the top ten masters. I may not be able to compete in open and be in the top ten, but hey, I think modifying my goal at this point is ok.
My Internal Med doc thinks I have rheumatoid arthritis. I've been researching it and it's not a fun ride, but this is the body I have and I will make the most of it. Most of my other numbers are in great shape. lipid panel, renal fx, chem, vitamin levels, thyroid panel are all where they should be.
But my ANA is 1:160 and I have a high sed rate and my lymphocytes are a bit low. Also, my liver panel is up a bit. This is likely related to a diaphragmatic hernia, and my liver is constantly bruised from slipping in and out of there.
So! This journal does have a slightly different skew. I will be discussing medical stuff, as well as my continuing adventures in powerlifting. Come along if you like.

Yesterday
First day back after many weeks.
Squats
in brand new Wei-Rui squat shoes!
70x10
90x5
105x5
125x5
140x3x2
160x3x3
Bench
barx10
65x5
85x5
105x5x3
Keeping my days coming back into this very light. Not too many sets, and yesterday was not much weight. I just wanted to introduce my body back into it and see how it did. It did ok!
The squat shoes are exactly what I needed to help me with my squat. Glad I got them. They are super nice shoes, btw. And not expensive. I can shoot right into the hole no problem. I am having to relearn mechanics of getting out of the hole, as I used to have so many compensatory muscle movements in order to get back up. I will push to 180 tomorrow and up it by 10 or 20 pounds each squat session until I am back to where I was.
Today
high step ups for warm up
Deadlifts
140x5, 190x5, 205x3, 230x3, 257x1, 282x1
(50 pounds bar, plus I used some 5kg weights by mistake, so numbers are weird)
The 282 shifted forward a bit while going up, but it went up smooth, no issues getting it there. It was a regulation worthy lift. Pretty sure I will be hitting 310 again soon.
I will probably keep these sessions daily and low volume for a while. Being a bit cautious with my newly rebellious body.

<3 Super K! I am glad you're in.
I will sort it. I am taking your lead and doing daily work and adjusting daily based on how I feel. I think that is the smartest way to do it for now. No programming other than a loose guideline:
Squat or lunge of some sort every day
Press of some sort or deadlift
and then if I feel like doing something else, I will, but for now, I am just letting my body be my guide.

Hey, we're blood work twins!! My ANA is 1:160 also though everything on the ANA titer came back normal (go figure). They think my swallowing/digestive system issues are autoimmune related though with the titer being negative, I have no diagnosis. I also have a high sed rate and elevated liver enzymes, though they think the latter is from lifting. I also have a hiatal hernia.
I wish my light days were so heavy! Awesome work!!

Geek! I was just browsing around here the other day and wondering where you'd been! Autoimmune sucks, my celiac can certainly be a delight although it's under control 99.9% of the time these days. My mom is now up to three autoimmune diseases, so well aware of how much fun they can be
That having been said, you're a tough chick and can do anything you set your mind to. So game on for 1000 girl!!!

Sorry to hear about the autoimmune (general) diagnosis, I hope they can let you know exactly what it is soon so it can be better treated. But it is awesome that you are still moving the weights and not letting it get you down! And love the programming style, it really is the best when you are working around something like that.
