The same people who tell you that you cannot grow your upper body without hitting legs are the EXACT people that complain about seeing people with huge upper bodies and small legs. Also, they make up things by saying a Deadlift adds more mass to lats than a wide grip pull up or a bent over row? That makes me laugh a deadlift is a great powerlifting movement but my uncle was an IFBB pro in the 70s, and currently weighs 238 pounds at 6% bodyfat at age 60 (no e-stating). And he doesn't recommend dead lifts for hypertrophy purposes.

Why do people contradict themselves to defend Squats and Deadlifts?

i both squat and deadlift, but i usually go hard on one of them, while deloading the other or not doing the other at all. Doing both of them max effort in a short time period is too much work i.m.o , but i think both of them are excellent exercises

It's not like you won't get a big upper body if that's all you train. But it definitely is beneficial to the upper body to do squats and deadlifts, it will make it look even better.

Squats and deadlifts work the erectors. Deads also work the lats and traps. Also Dsaff18's point may have been that a large upper body looks better with big legs rather than your assumption that he thinks the hormone release from these exercises causes growth in muscles not directly involved in the exercise.

Nobody furaking forces you to do squats and deadlifts. People don't care if you'll do them or not, so they don't have a reason to lie to you about their efficiency.
But they are great compound movements that work some of your biggest muscles and they help you to put overall mass on, that's all.getting my protein through a venflon 24/7 so i don't go catabolic crew
