    Why do people bulk up then cut?

    I dont understand why people bulk up then cut. Lets say someone bulks up by 20 pounds. Then there gonna cut and lose that weight.

    What is the point of that?

    You bulk so that you aren't 6'0" 150lbs.

    Bulk 20 lbs over 20 weeks, 10 lbs are fat, 10 lbs are muscls (approx, some will also be water and glycogen)

    You just gained 10 lbs of muscle.

    the goal is to build as much as possible as quickly as possible

    so u gain a lot of weight, understanding that if you eat a lot there is a better chance to build more while at the same time gaining a bit of fat

    then u cut down on the fat and repeat

    If you wanted to. When you bulk you gain muscle+fat, when you cut you lose the accumulated fat that you gained during your bulk and keep the muscle. You could keep bulking if you want but you would just pile on fat, so most people cut after bulking.

    to build muscle mass, you have to eat more calories than you burn. unfortunately, along with this gained muscle mass comes a little extra fat. the purpose of cutting is to get rid of this excess fat while keeping the new muscle you put on. so you'll lose some of the weight you gained, but keep the muscle weight/mass. that's the whole point

    let's say you weigh 100 pounds at 10% body fat and bulk to 120 pounds and are now at 12% body fat (this isn't realistic and is just an example). 2% 120 is 2.4. so if you go on a cut to get rid of the extra fat you put on, and get back to 10% body fat, you will end up weighing 117.6 pounds. you gained 17.6 pounds of muscle. again, this is an example and isn't realistic.

    For example:
    180lb 17 year old male, wanting to cut.
    a) lift weights before doing cardio
    b) only does cardio

    People workout when they bulk right? Or do they just eat a lot and not workout to risk losing calories?

    You bulk to put on muscle and fat, you then cut to lose the fat and keep muscle.

    Its impossible to gain muscle without fat. No matter what if you bulk for a good amount of time you will put some fat on your body
