Caloric absorption
Hi. I posted this in the losing fat forum initially. I probably should have posted it here in the fat science subforum instead.
Does dieting increase caloric absorption? I've gone from eating whatever I want to eating 1600 cals of protein, complex carbs and veggies daily. I have the occasional cheat meal. I find that I'm a bit more.. um.. regular when I'm eating whatever I want. I'm just wondering if reducing overall consumption increases my body's use of the calories I consume. That is, before, when I was eating a lot, was my digestive system not absorbing all the calories I consumed? The reason I ask is, though I am seeing progress, it's not as quick as I expected. I assume either (a) I am overestimating how much I ate before, (b) I am overestimating how many calories I've cut from my diet or (c) caloric absorption varies with consumption.
Thanks.

5'9", 170-175 lbs (173 lbs as of earlier today). Approximately 15% body fat. I exercise 3-5 times a week depending on the amount of free time I have. I have a desk job. I generally feel fine eating this much. Occasionally, when I do feel a bit lethargic, I eat more.
