BSN Syntha-6 Chocolate Cake Batter Review
Before we begin the review I would like to express my sincere gratitude to both BSN and Matz for hooking me up with the new Syntha-6 flavor and a whole bunch of goodies. I was totally shocked to see 6 sample packets and an awesome shaker bottle in my shipment, the guys at BSN are the best of the best.
REVIEW TIME!!!
Price: 8.5/10
The price of a 2.91lb container on bb.com is $29.99, which gives you 30 full scoops. This works out just under $1.00 per scoop, which is a bit on the pricey side for a protein. However, if you were to buy the larger 5lb container and use a discount code/another website, the price per scoop can drop to under $0.75. This is on par with pretty much every other popular protein on the market, making it an affordable and smart choice.
Ingredient Profile: 9/10
Syntha-6 uses an awesome combination of protein sources in its formula; the top 3 being: Whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate, and calcium caseinate. Unlike other formulas that use milk protein isolate/concentrate as the top protein source, Syntha-6 focuses on whey which I really enjoy. The protein blend is totally complete, with both fast and slow digesting protein forms, and the addition of glutamine peptides are the icing on the cake. The nutrition facts are very similar to its top competitors, but Syntha-6 has 3g of fiber which is certainly beneficial IMO. The only thing I would potentially change is the amount of protein. I would've upped the 22g per scoop to 25g or more, but mixing with milk easily brings the shake over 30g, not a big deal at all.
Taste: 9.5/10
Growing up as a kid, my dad would always treat me to a glass of Ovaltine chocolate milk before my bedtime. The instant Syntha-6 chocolate cake batter touched my lips I had a major flashback to those memorable nights. I mixed one scoop with ~10oz of milk and shook for a few seconds. The shake has a creamy chocolate texture that carries a perfect balance of sweet and rich flavor. I didn't taste much "cake batter" for one of two reasons: I don't really know what cake batter is "supposed" to taste like, and I was too caught up in the rich chocolate shake I was gulping down. The chocolate cake batter flavor will definitely go down in my book as one of the best chocolate protein powders i've tasted.
Mixability: 10/10
Not much to say here, after mixing one scoop with ~10oz of milk and giving it a few shakes, it was completely dissolved. A few bubbles showed up on the top from my rough shaking, but they disappeared very quickly. There weren't any chunks or pieces left in the shake, so mixability definitely deserves a perfect score.
Overall: 9.5/10
Complete protein profile + delicious flavors + afforable pricing + perfect mixability = BSN's Syntha-6 Chocolate Cake Batter. Two big thumbs up BSN, you really have a winner with this flavor, and thanks again for the genorosity!
