You should start a healthier diet now so you arent just staying bulky then tryin to slim down fast, take out unhealthy things, lower calories, increase cardio but not so much you have a huge difference, start trying to lose light weight and fat now and then turn it up probably 15-12 weeks out. Just my advice i could be wrong I am no expert

I understand where you are coming from!, but i thought since my BF is high now i would cut down to 7%ish. Compete for the excpierence, and then do a year bulk. I don't feel comfratable with the BF i am at now so i rather cut down then bulk up without raising the BF above 12-13%

Thanks for the advice!, I think I am going to bulk up for another 5 months and compete in october, I really want to get lean and see what my body looks like in contest shape. Then after that contest I am going to bulk for a solid year if not more and gain muscle while in my teenage years! That way i will be bulking with a lower bf to and will try to keep it around 13%

Cut down to 10% then clean bulk till you're 19 then cut for a teen contest towards the end of your 19th year. These are the years of your life that trying to cut to contest will be counterproductive to becoming a successful competitor. You can put on the most mass now, take advantage of it, a lot of us didn't, you still have time.

Hockey,
First of all, without seeing the condition of your lower body, it is impossible to make a fair judgement of what your current bodyfat % is. However, based on your upper body, you have a significant amount of fat to lose in order to come into stage-worthy shape. I know it sounds absolutely ridiculous, but based on the look of your physique, you really do need to lose 30-40lbs of fat in order to achieve a competitive physique.
Here is a great example of how deceiving bodyfat can be:
Alberto Nunez
Pic on the left @ 180lbs, Pic on the right @ 160lbs
That's TWENTY pounds he lost and his condition was already very well in place.
Focus on putting yourself in a calorie surplus, fitting your macronutrient requirements, and applying a training program with an emphasis on progressive tension overload so that you can utilize your teenage years and your potential for growth. Dieting down and putting yourself in a caloric deficit will only take away this precious time that you have that your body is naturally surging with hormones.
It could very well take 30+ weeks to properly shape the composition of your body to be near stage-worthy. Disregard the possibility of even coming close to being ready in 12-16 weeks. Unless you are on drugs (and arguably even if you took all the drugs you could find), that's far too short of a time frame to lose the amount of bodyfat you need to in order to bring a competitive physique. You will inevitably burn out, lose muscle, overtrain, or put yourself in such a caloric deficit that you lose your mind.
You have great potential! Give yourself some time to develop your body more and you will not regret it. The stage will always be there.Last edited by CaseySmithBB; 02-01-2012 at 01:29 AM.

Appriciate the advice man! I think we're all in an agreement that I should cut soon, my bf is high so I think I am gonna cut come may and get down to 8-10% and from there evaluate if I am able to keep cutting and compete if not I'll clean bulk and try to stay kind of lean!

good example casey
Hockey.. no hate was intended.. before i really followed competitors i thought a 6 pack meant the stage was right around the corner.. i was dead wrong
most guys literally need to take the weight they believe they need to cut and double it to get as lean as they need to be... but then again.. some guys only get down to 7% on stage.. but the winners get to 4-5%Instagram: thomas_poucher
yes i've tried doing incline first
