Just found this thread and figured I would introduce myself. Been on here for a little over a week or so. While, I am not married, I am engaged and we have a 3 year old daughter together; two kids total. I have been on and off when it comes to working out. The toughest part for me now, aside from having parental responsibility is the fact that I work nights. However, on the HIIT topic, I did do the Insanity in its entirety back in the beginning of 2011. Worked like a dream. Went from 209 down to 195 lbs in 2 months, and lost over 17 inches throughout my body. Lots of people thought I weighed less than that! I definitely have difficulty staying motivated when it comes to working out, and I probably could come up with 1,000 reasons why, but there is really no excuse. Just read my signature. I am beginning a new chapter in my life (about to turn 30 in a few months), which means it is time to make a few life decisions, to include fitness.
While I am no rookie, I am sure there is plenty I can learn as there is always new exercises out there that I can try. After looking at a number of stories on here (awesome motivation can be found in the "Transformations" link found on the motivation page), as well as comparing weight vs physical appearance, I have decided to set the following weight goal:
Current weight: 197 lbs; Goal weight: 177 - 184 lbs
Not too sure how I want to be proportion wise, since my waist is naturally 35 inches. I'm looking at maybe going for 43" chest, 16.5 - 18" arms, 23" legs, 16" calves. It might seem like I'm throwing numbers out there, but it's not, I promise. Some of it is based from personal experience and other numbers are based on just constant information overload. Not trying to look perfect...want to build more confidence and self-appreciation. Right now I abuse the life out of my body...I drink untold amounts of soda, eat all sorts of fatty food (bad fat), smoke a pack of cigarettes per day, and the list goes on. Makes me wonder how the hell I am even just 197 lbs!
Anyway, sorry for rambling. Just tired of hiding from myself. I feel like the first step to fixing things is admitting there is a problem. Thanks for reading!
There is no such thing as "I can't."
There is, however, such a thing as "I won't."

Hi everyone. Just found this thread and am so happy to find other like minded people out there. As a parent, I find that I encounter a lot of negitivity for the fact I take an hour a day to workout and focus on myself. But I really believe that taking this time improves my self confidence and my attitude.

I have the same issue man. My wife isn't really into working out. I'm at the gym all the time but you gotta always find time for the family, ya know? Gets difficult sometimes.

Oh man nice to see others with the same struggle. I'm grateful for the progress I made so far with the little time I have. How do you have time for football? Haha, I only have the time to check the scores at work!
Current PR's
Decline Bench 365 lbs x 7
Squat 455 lbs x 5
Dead Lift 545 lbs x 1

Hi - Just found this thread and wanted to introduce myself. I am married with two young kids, work full time and I am doing my first natural bodybuilding competition in April! On the days I don't workout with my trainer at the gym, I wait until the kids are asleep to workout. It gets late, but I feel like there is no other time! I can't lift in the morning - tried that - just not enough energy or time! Sometimes I get up early and do cardio...but lifting has to be at night! Anyway, friend me! Would love to meet some others dealing with balancing all of this!

This is great... this is my long time goal. My only problem with working out at night is that it is so hard to fall asleep afterward...Anyway welcome. I have two kids 2-4 and my saving grace is that the area my wife goes to the gym has a day care so we can workout.

Yeah I think if it's something you want to do you'll find a way to make it happen. I am split up now, on my training days when I have my son I use the gym's daycare (luckily they have one). I have done mornings too, they are rough but necessary sometimes.
Abs on a skinny guy are like boobs on a fat chick, they don't count!
Current lifts
Bench: 325
Squat: 395
Deadlift: 445
SQUAT! Because somewhere out there, there's a girl warming up with your max.

i agree, it can be hard to fall asleep afterwards. I stay up much later than i did before I started exercising again. But it is much harder for me to get up early...just can't do it! Plus the only time I can see my trainer is the evenings....so I figured I would stay on that schedule when I workout at home too. It's nice that the gyms you go to have daycare! After I get through this year of competitions I might re-evaluate my situation with where I workout and when....

You should! As long as you're not sacrificing equipment/atmosphere. Having a daycare has given me a ton of flexibility in my workout schedule.
