Thanks dog I'm hoping to get back up to where I was, and the pass it, finally. Looking for 3 wheels on deads before the end of the year (I hope!!).

Doing my best Jason, thanks One session at a time. I'll get there!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, this week is going to be odd, seeing as I have my surgery on Thursday, and I won't be allowed to lift anything over 50lbs for at least 5 days.

I've put OHP/deads tomorrow, in the same session, and bench/squats on Wednesday in the same session.

I'll be trying to do all accessory lifts too. I FULLY expect to be wrecked for the next few days, which is the point. For deload, I'll be doing absolutely nothing that week while I recover. Afterwards, I'll be on to cycle 2.

I also have to try and remember to foam roll every day. I'm sitting here right now, and holy sheet are my hamstrings tight/sore. Ugh.

Holy cow... I'm SO GLAD that I took a pre for this. I was running on a few hours of sleep and still managed to bang all of this out. I was also suitably impressed... A couple of teens were beside me doing box squats............. Properly. PROPERLY!

The only thing I didn't get to doing were hanging knee raises. I was just too spent. BUT I hit the OHP 5x10, which I'm more excited about.

Speaking of OHP, I've figured out why I was getting a twinge in my left arm. Apparently my form was off, and I was pressing a little backwards. I put the theory to the test last night, and had no pain with corrected form, but got a twinge when I slipped in a regular form rep. Fixing it!

That's cool, definitely worth it. The place I went to was a bit more expensive than other places, but it was a highly reputable place, and they have the lifetime guarantee so it's definitely worth the extra cash.

Nice work on the OHP and deadlifts man.

Nice work on the OHP and deadlifts man.
This place has been around for ages, and the surgeon is the co-founder, so I'm in good hands. I'm really looking forward to it!

Thanks. Getting back into it, and had a crazy session last night. Was awesome!

I've yet to do 5/3/1, so maybe someone who has experience with the program would be better to ask, but I really don't see why that would be an issue. Even without a gain in strength, you should still be able bang out 4-5 reps on 1+ day with a 20 lb jump.

It'll bring me closer to where I'd left off, which would be nice. Good to see that I haven't lost all that much in strength (but on the contrary, have gained in a bit of belly fat).

Jason had this to say about it:

If you are going to start with 5/3/1 though, don't be afraid to use larger bumps in your training maxes when you are busting out 12/10/8 reps on your 5+/3+/1+ AMRAP days.
So I'm pretty sure that I'll go with a 20lb jump on deads. 3 plates by the end of the year seems pretty obtainable.

Mixed Bench and Swuat 1+ day

    Barbell Bench Press:

    65 lb x 5 reps (+41 pts)
    85 lb x 5 reps (+47 pts)
    100 lb x 3 reps (+41 pts)
    125 lb x 5 reps (+61 pts)
    140 lb x 3 reps (+54 pts)
    155 lb x 6 reps (+80 pts)

    Bench Volume sets:

    100 lb x 10 reps (+61 pts)
    100 lb x 10 reps (+61 pts)
    100 lb x 10 reps (+61 pts)
    100 lb x 10 reps (+61 pts)
    100 lb x 10 reps (+61 pts)

Now, I have to start using chalk religiously for bench. I could have gotten a few more reps, but my hands had slid out a couple of cm from where they'd started, as the knurling is way too shallow...

    Barbell Squat:

    100 lb x 5 reps (+52 pts)
    125 lb x 5 reps (+61 pts)
    150 lb x 3 reps (+58 pts)
    185 lb x 5 reps (+92 pts)
    210 lb x 3 reps (+87 pts)
    230 lb x 8 reps (+142 pts)

    Squat Volume sets:

    150 lb x 10 reps (+86 pts)
    150 lb x 10 reps (+86 pts)
    150 lb x 10 reps (+86 pts)
    150 lb x 10 reps (+86 pts)
    150 lb x 10 reps (+86 pts)

I lost my concentration on the 6th rep, making reps 7 and 8 a LOT harder than they should have been. I could've also put on my belt, but I don't think I'm going to for anything under 300lbs for squats. We'll see. Otherwise, solid squatting.

    One-Arm Dumbbell Row:

    70 lb x 10 reps (+47 pts)
    70 lb x 10 reps (+47 pts)
    70 lb x 10 reps (+47 pts)
    70 lb x 10 reps (+47 pts)
    70 lb x 10 reps (+47 pts)

I almost quit the workout after the second set of rows. I was just so spent... But I looked around at everyone in the gym, who looks like what I'm trying to achieve, and told myself, "None of these people quit halfway through, and looked like that. Keep it going!"

    Lying Leg Curls:

    100 lb x 10 reps (+15 pts)
    100 lb x 10 reps (+15 pts)
    100 lb x 10 reps (+15 pts)
    100 lb x 10 reps (+15 pts)
    100 lb x 10 reps (+15 pts)

    --------

Solid session... Now I've got my off week, and am resting up from Lasik.

It wasn't a terribly bad procedure. It's just a bit odd. Any questions about it?

Nice work man. How's the chest feeling, fully recovered from that surgery?

Yeah the lasik is a weird surgery. When I had it done, the worst part was when they put the clamp to hold your eyes open, the pressure felt like they were trying to scoop my eyeballs out. Did your eyes sting afterwards? Did you go home and take a nap afterwards? How awesome was it when you opened your eyes and could see everything?

    Hey J

My chest hasn't been bothering me at all, so I guess I'm fully healed... No straining or anything when I'm pressing, which is good news.

That clamp was weird, for sure. Wasn't that bad, though. I was told it would feel like a pinch, but it was more like some extra pressure. They burned after, for a few hours, but I didn't take a nap, no.

I love being able to see. My left eye is healing a bit slower than the right, but it's coming along. Still a bit of double vision in it. I'm LOVING this I think I'm done wearing my sunglasses to bed, too...

I'll be back in the gym next week.

I've been looking at this article, and thinking that I need to get it done:

I hadn't done much, but the article at least got me thinking. As I was sitting in traffic last night, I pulled my belt out and started working on it. I rolled it up tight one way, then the other way, back and forth a few times. Then I started folding it up and working it back and forth that way, moving up and down the belt about an inch every few seconds. I actually noticed a difference, it doesn't feel so stiff when I pick it up, we'll see if it feels any different once I wrap it around my waist. I'm hesitant to do any of the more drastic measures like soak it in water, run it through the dishwasher, run over with my car, etc. because I have a cheap belt and don't want it to fall apart on me. I'd be hesitant to do those things with a good belt though too for fear of ruining a good belt and having to shell out the cash again.

    So.

I'm back in the saddle after two weeks off after Lasik. Time to rock this joint.

Just have to get the diet back on track, and we'll be good. I'm feeling good nowadays... Minus missing a few reps on the accessory work (though I think I went from 50% to 60% for it...), it's looking pretty good

9 reps is solid, I agree. I didn't think I'd make it, but I'm hammering them out now that I've figured out what I was doing wrong with my form. I think I'm pretty close... I'll get all the numbers together at work today, to make a bit of a comparison.

I also upped squats and deads 20lbs, I believe.

Thanks man Totally trying to get back to where I was, without injury of course.

Deadlifting is going to be interesting, as I'll be tweaking my form just a tiny bit, according to this:

Has anyone used long sleeve compression shirts to workout in? I'm thinking of buying one to try out, in lieu of my usual hoody...
