    Sports compared to professional bodybuilding.....

What sports out there compare with the hard work, dedication and at times misery that being a professional bodybuilder entails? I can't think of another sport with as disciplined of dieting or training. Perhaps boxing?? I don't know...what do you guys think?

    close comparison?
they are much harder lifestyles. They get beat up all the time and it's intense cardio everyday, training or fighting.
The fight preps and fights are much harder than bodybuilding preps and contests.

Great point, I guess it's really hard to compare any sport with professional bodybuilding. I can't imagine the rigors of MMA or boxing as a profession.

All sports are very hard especially at the elite level. It is very hard in aspects but what might be hard for us doesnt phase them as bad for that sport.

The only hard part of bb-ing would be the dieting down, everything else is done on a daily basis by a lot of other athletes.

To be succesful in bodybuilding you need genetics, great response to training & cell tech, while on other sports, just .. training & little talent.

People underestimate what it actually takes to diet down to 3-4%.

Yeah last I checked you don't diet down to 3% body fat in boxing.

If you think that getting in a cage to fight some crazy **** that will beat you up as hard as he can and you must fight back as hard as you can for minutes that seem like hours is comparable to getting on stage and hang out with your iffb buddies to hit some mandatories you are retarded.

Gymnastics are probably the worst sport. The things that the kids who train it suffer can be easily considered physical and psychological abuse (and some times sexual abbuse happens)

So all the girls complaining about dieting down to super low BF% is harder than maintaining an exact weight and prime strength and endurance for a possibly 25 min fight?

Bodybuilding is : know what to eat, know what to lift, get results if decent genetics.
MM is: know what to eat, know when to lift and do cardio, pad and bag train, wrestle/BJJ ground work, get damn better reaction time.

I believe they are different beasts. Neither could do the others job. I would say being a top level fighter is only a bit more strenuous than a top level BBer.

I train Muay Thai, BJJ, and Greco-Roman wrestling as well as lift pretty often. I lift very well for my weight, and when ready for a fight I'll be around 8% BF, though I could get to 5% if it was warranted for anything to me.
If I were going to go pro at one of the two: I'd rather eat and lift while watching what I eat than do the same all the while trying to not get an elbow to the face.

I'll say this - in bb-ing factors that you have no control over will get you a lot farther then they would in most other serious sports. I can't think of one discipline that allows McDonalds and light training to get you anywhere.

I think most people realize how hard professional athletes train. The point of the thread was comparing professional bodybuilding to other sports in respect to training regimen.

Maybe not diet wise although they've still got to watch it but football. Training most days a week on all different aspects like strength, cardio, tactics, different drills, then play a game once and sometimes twice per week.

most fans of bodybuilding will say it's the toughest sport out there. I think that most physical sports take that much dedication to be the best of the best (top 5 in the world). most sports as in...90% of sports excluding sports such as archery and cricket

bodybuilding is not a sport, it's a hobby. and although some sports aren't as mentally challenging as bodybuilding, most are physically more challenging in terms of training.
